Adamah NY

Dear Friends,

Happy after-the-holidays! We share a collective sigh of relief following the ceasefire and the return of the living hostages, and we hold hope that this moment opens a path toward healing and stability—for Israelis and Palestinians, and for all who long for a more peaceful and compassionate world.

During the last few months Adamah NY has been Rooted in Action—leading volunteer days, teaching, and mobilizing others to adopt climate action, to speak up about the environment, and to step outside and do the work together. Just before Sukkot, we hosted two Tree-Care Volunteer Days (read about them in our blog!), and just before Rosh Hashanah we launched Climate Week NYC with ROOTED, a day of collective action across New York City, Westchester, and Long Island. More than 1,200 people joined us—including 430 teens and kids!—to shovel, plant, paint, and uproot invasive species, showing what’s possible when Jewish community and climate action come together.

ROOTED wasn’t just a volunteer day. It was a powerful reminder that we are part of something bigger: a Jewish climate movement grounded in joy, resilience, and shared responsibility for the earth.

The events in Israel-Palestine this week serve as a powerful reminder that courage, collective voice, and steadfast dedication can move even the hardest realities toward hope. In this same spirit, Adamah NY continues to act—building leadership, deepening connection, and inspiring action toward a more sustainable and compassionate future.

As we look toward the coming months, our work continues with purpose and urgency. In this moment, local and grassroots leadership matters more than ever. The U.S. climate movement has faced major setbacks, from federal rollbacks to declining corporate investment in sustainability. Adamah NY is proud to respond with the full strength of Jewish spirit—cultivating leaders, deepening connections to tradition and the earth, and preparing for a more resilient future.

Your generosity fuels this work—ensuring that more people can experience the inspiration, connection, and action that Adamah NY makes possible.

Please consider making a gift today to help us grow our collective impact. Together, we are rooted in the work that connects us—to each other, to our traditions, and to the world we share.

With gratitude,

Dr. Shahar Sadeh,
 Adamah NY Director

City Trees, Sacred Shelters: Celebrating Sukkot in the Urban Forest Blog Post

By: Hannah Kahn Glass
Adamah NY Education and Community Engagement Coordinator

While Tu B'Shvat is the day when trees take center stage in the Jewish calendar, at Adamah NY we honored our city trees to bring in the holiday of Sukkot.

In Jewish daily prayers, we ask for a shelter of peace (sukkat shalom) to be spread over us. In so many ways, trees act as shelters of peace. They provide temporary homes for journeying birds and nut-storing squirrels. They offer shade on hot summer days. They even regulate our nervous systems, helping us act more peacefully toward one another....
