Monday Imagine Waiting Over 15 Years to Hear God’s WordPhilip and Natalie Hansen minster among the Kovol people of Papua New Guinea. Praise God for bringing the Hansens through official culture and language acquisition. They plan to have a translation workshop in December, and once the literacy program is revised and their co-workers Steve and Gerdine Stanley return early next year, “we can hopefully start our first ever Kovol literacy class.” Praise God that the team is another step closer to presenting God’s Word to the Kovol people. “We are so thankful for our Kovol friends who are still waiting patiently now for over 15 years to hear God’s Word (10 years asking for missionaries and then five more years as we slowly learned their language). We are so thankful for the relationships and their enthusiasm.”
Tuesday Pray for Those Stepping Into New Ministries in SenegalDaniela serves in Senegal. Praise God that she has reached the required level of “capable high” in her culture and language acquisition (CLA). She is hoping to finish CLA soon. Daniela and two co-workers got to visit a church planting work in a different part of the country. “This gave us a glimpse into what life in a village can be like. … It became clear what wonderful experiences [the missionaries there] have, but also what challenges life there brings. … The question now becomes even more concrete: What will my path be after this first phase of language and cultural studies here? Will you pray that the Lord will make it clear where and with whom I can work in the future?”
Wednesday Update: Guanano Outreach in BrazilBarry and Denise Spor minister among the Guanano people of Brazil. Pray for the Guanano Bible teachers and the listeners in outreach village “PG” as the Bible teaching there resumes. “Food supplies are getting tight, and the guys said they don’t have enough money to buy more right now. Please pray for God’s provision.” Two women visiting from another village attended a “one-day crash course” of the Bible teaching in “PG.” “Pray that these women will … want to keep coming to hear more in ‘PG’” and that their village will want to hear too. And pray for believing couple Leovaldo and Marcela. Previously Leovaldo said he wanted to start the Bible teaching in his village. Pray that “God will keep stirring their hearts and give them the desire to have the teaching soon.” Update: Praise the Lord that, after expressing a clear understanding of the gospel, four Guanano men and women in this outreach village decided to put their faith in Jesus and were baptized in the river.
Thursday Holding Onto Hope Amidst Brokenness in MexicoLucas and Jessica Rondy minister among the Cora people of Mexico. “One of the things with ministering here is the constant reminder of the brokenness within the world. Any time we leave our home and go out into the community, it just is so apparent. … Yet there is hope, and we hold on to that hope. Keep praying for the hearts of the people here. … Pray that the church would be a light in the community. Pray for the husbands of the women who come [to church] alone, that God would use the testimonies of the wives to draw the husbands to Himself. And pray we do not grow weary of doing good.”
Friday Praise God for More Scripture in the Lusi LanguageRick and Anji Zook minister among the Lusi people of Papua New Guinea. “We were able to get four New Testament books checked [by a translation consultant]: 1 Timothy, Titus, 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians. These are the next books needed for teaching the Lusi church about church elders and deacons and developing leadership in the Lusi church.” They also had some of the Psalms translated, so these were checked by the consultant too. Praise God for a successful translation check and for more Scripture in the Lusi language. Pray for the church as they apply this new knowledge from God’s Word to establish church leadership.
