ICOPE Implementation in the Region of the Americas

For the healthcare system, the key to supporting healthy aging for all is optimizing people’s intrinsic capacity and functional ability. Launched in 2017, Integrated care for older people: guidelines on community-level interventions to manage declines in intrinsic capacity introduced the ICOPE strategy calling for an integrated and person-centered approach to assessment and management.

A technical meeting was held in Santiago, Chile in early March to design an ICOPE implementation strategy for the Region of the Americas. Integrating health and social sectors in a person-centered approach is key to achieve better care for older adults. In addition, the vision of implementing services driven by maintaining and improving the functional ability of older individuals is essential to achieve healthy aging.
