Patient Experience Week 2022

Thank you for your participation in this year's patient experience week. It was a great time for self-reflection and focus on our unparalleled care for our patients. Your responses, including Wednesday's photo challenge, were thoughtful and there were plenty of them. We have compiled your photos and a few responses and invite you to read them here.

Parking Lot Restriping Begins

Restriping work will begin on the parking lot between the Cancer Center and Sweetwater Blvd. Each phase will start on a Thursday evening after normal working hours and be completed by 6 a.m. Monday.

  • May 6-9: Yellow Area. Patients will need to park in front of the Heart Center.
  • May 13-16: Green area. Doctors will need to park in the Sweetwater parking garage.
  • May 20-23: Red Area. MOB 2 visitors will need to park in the Sweetwater parking garage.
  • May 27-30: Purple Area. MOB 2 staff will need to park in the blue area. One lane entering and one lane exiting from Town Center Blvd. will be blocked to allow for restriping.
  • June 3-6: Blue Area. Employees and contractor parking will be directed to the Sweetwater parking garage.

Hurricane Preparedness Week

May 1 – May 7 is Hurricane Preparedness Week. The week is designated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to educate people about the ways to prepare before a season begins. Members of our Facilities team will be sharing tips this week on Chris’ Corner. Please be sure to save this information for yourselves and your loved ones.

Coming Soon: Hospital Week

May 9-14 is Hospital Week, when we will celebrate the people that make up this great hospital, and all the work you do. There will be activities each day next week, so keep your eye on next week’s newsletter for more information. Thank you for your unparalleled dedication to HMSL!

Expressions of Gratitude

Share your gratitude for the special women in your life with the Moms of Methodist ERG and CPAM. On May 5-6, you are invited to decorate a paper flower and write who you’re grateful for ahead of Mother’s Day. The activity will be in the Main Atrium outside the Starbucks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.

A Prayer For Mother's Day

Mother's Day is traditionally a time of celebration, but we recognize that this day can create different emotions for everyone. The Spiritual Care Team has offered a prayer for all women we love and those that we grieve. You can read that here.

Neurology Cath Lab Expansion

The neurology team recently celebrated the expansion of their cath lab, which came with the addition of an advanced image-guided therapy system for neurological conditions. The system enhances patient safety and improves visibility of the entire brain. The system gives precise, high-quality views which can reduce treatment time by 30 minutes or more, which HMSL neurosurgeon Dr. Tzu Lau says is critical for stroke care.

A SICU patient received a very sweet visitor last week thanks to the work of the Guest Relations and SICU teams. Her four-legged friend, Red, was able to spend time in her room after her procedure. Her husband was thankful for the efforts and kindness shown by nurses and staff to make this happen, and added that it was the motivation and encouragement his wife needed in her healing. A special shout out to Nicki Olmstead, who came in on her day off to facilitate the visit, and even brought the patient a framed photo of Red for her bedside.
