NEWS UPDATE

17 March 2023

Publishers note

I had the honour of attending the Australian Superyacht Soireé on the weekend. What I found was an excellent line up of industry stakeholders including exhibitors, sponsors and guests who participated and enjoyed a fabulous contribution of everything Superyachts. My congratulations to the team at Superyachts Australia who delivered a well-balanced and appropriate offering for the target audience. Well done to the entire team.

For those who have been following Michelle’s journey, you will have noticed one considerable change to her tracker. Over the last 24 hours, it has been updated to indicate a landing somewhere, possibly Cairns, in North Queensland. As you would know, her heart was set on arriving in her hometown of Sydney.  However, nature had its way with Australian Maid, and placed her in a position where she will likely arrive in Cairns. This in no way undermines her journey. The challenge was always to land on the East Coast of Australia. Sydney was just a hopeful bonus.

With more than 90% of her journey done, Michelle understands that the last leg will be her hardest. Apart from the ongoing weather challenges, she also must navigate and not come undone on the Great Barrier Reef, as well as deal with some currents that will want to send her further north.

What she does have on her side to help her success is an amazing ground crew who behind the scenes have done wonders, beyond expectations to support Michelle’s efforts.  There are some special people and organisations amongst this group that will be mentioned at the right time. For now, I know that they want the focus to be on Michelle and not them. But the time will come to celebrate their contribution.
