Week of September 12, 2022

Chris Siebenaler
Regional Senior Vice President, CEO

Sugar Land Team,

As September settles in, we enter our next phase of Performance Excellence, which may be very familiar to many of you.

Last month you each developed your own personal why for Performance Excellence and now we are ready to move into the how: Daily Management.

Daily Management is at the core of “Everybody, Every Day,” because each of you has a role to play to paint an unparalleled tomorrow. It requires our best efforts from everybody, every day, so that what we do today sets us up for an even better tomorrow.

With Daily Management, think of each day as an opportunity to add your brushstroke, with each of us working together to paint the picture. With so many artists working together, we must provide a consistent, daily approach that allows for everyone’s voice to be heard and the vision to come together.

Please watch this video for a quick look into Daily Management and how it will impact you.

Providing unparalleled safety, quality, service, and innovation is a complex work of art. Thank you all for your continued dedication to Performance Excellence.

Unparalleled Connections

Unparalleled Connections for an Unparalleled Future sessions begin this week. These in-person sessions are led by senior leadership and dig into the personal connections made throughout their journeys. Sessions at HMSL will run Sept. 13 through Sept. 29. Click here to register on LMS.

Your Vaccine Records

Employee Health has developed a new process for employees to give their consent to have any vaccinations received at a Houston Methodist physician’s office automatically flow from Epic to Employee Health. You can read this message from HR Hub for information on how to do this.

March of Dimes Award

HMSL was recently awarded for our 2022 March of Dimes fundraising efforts. HMSL raised a total of $20,450, coming in 3rd place in Fort Bend County. Thank you for your unending support of this important non-profit, which is dedicated to the health of all mothers and babies. A special thank you to the HMSL March of Dimes Committee for all the work you put in to another successful fundraiser.

Winter GN Cohort Applications

September is Self-Care Awareness Month. The National Institute of Mental Health defines self-care as "taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical health and mental health." Your health is important to us, so we want to offer you a few ways to help take care of your entire self:

  • Attend one of the many activities hosted by Employee Wellness geared towards self-care. There is also a self-care calendar and bingo challenge to complete by September 30th. All of these can help you earn Virgin Pulse points as we finish up Health Tracks for 2022.

  • Take care of yourself while earning CE credits by attending mindfulness training or mindfulness practice sessions.

  • Book a massage, acupuncture or personal training session right here on campus.

  • Attend a Nourish Your Soul. These 15-minute sessions are held every Thursday at 12:00 via Teams.

  • Take a walk around campus to destress! Employee Wellness will host weekly walks beginning September 16 at noon through November. Keep an eye on your email for more details.

Convenience Corner: #LifeHacks

Our team members wear multiple hats. They are dedicated caregivers while at work but are partners, parents, children, neighbors, volunteers, hobbyists and more. This week, we’re featuring tips and tricks from co-workers to make your everyday life just a little bit easier.

Employee: Dan Hootman, Sr. Project Manager - Administration, Dutiful-Dad-On-The-Run

Dan’s #LifeHack:

"Daddy Dude Go-Bag. This is my go-to backpack whenever our family is out and about. We leave our go-bag at the garage entrance so my wife or I can grab it when we’re out with our toddler.

  • Backpack
  • Clothing - Top, Bottom, Underwear, Socks
  • Hygiene - Diapers, Wipes, Doggie Waste Bags (can be utilized for trash), antiseptic/ alcohol wipes, First Aid Kit, Hand Sanitizer
  • Food - Water bottle, snack bars
  • Misc. - Multi-tool (Swiss Army knife, Leatherman multitool, etc.), notebook + pencil

This saves us time and money and those 'oh no!' moments more times than I can count."

If you have a trick, shortcut, skill, or novelty method that you use to make your life easier and more convenient – please share it with us by emailing Rashna Barge.

Pandemic and Outbreak Resources

COVID-19 Pandemic

We continue to monitor the current uptick of COVID-19 cases at HMSL. Click here for the latest data.

Monkeypox Outbreak

Click here to see the Clinical Resource Guide for clinical guidance on the response to the monkeypox outbreak.

PATIENT COMPLIMENTS

Childbirth Center Patient: “Although my C-section was earlier than expected, the L+D staff was very impressive. They expedited the surgery and the team was seamless, even with little advance notice. Everyone was also very friendly. I would say that my L+D experience was much better than where I had  my first child. The nursing experience seemed better and they were seemingly more informative and spent a lot of time focusing on the mental health.”

Brazos 6 Patient: “Best hospital stay I have ever had. The staff was super nice, attentive and supportive I had excellent nurses especially Rolie, Mario, Earnest, and Kourtney. The surgical and anesthesia staff were excellent too.”

Breast Care Center Patient: “Lincy was very caring, always ensured that I was comfortable and exhibited empathy when she had to take the scans in uncomfortable positions. A wonderful experience overall.”
