San Benito County Campus Update

The Measure X bond program team continues working diligently to keep this top priority project moving forward.

Latest updates:

• The construction document package was approved in December 2021 by the Board of Trustees, and submitted in February 2022 to the Division of State Architect (DSA).
• DSA approval, and start of construction, is anticipated in December 2022.
• Felice Consulting Services is working with local agencies for sewer, water, power, gas and data to be delivered to the site.

• San Benito County Campus stakeholders, trustees, and community members have been involved in the development of the San Benito County Campus facilities, campus aesthetics, and future development of the site.

Completed Projects

The Fire Alarm Upgrade project was completed this month, as part of the Site Improvements, Security and Infrastructure main project.

Other completed projects (part of the Site Improvements, Security and Infrastructure main project):

• Pool ADA Upgrades (completed June 2021)
• Water Infrastructure Improvements (completed June 2021)

Projects in Construction

The Pedestrian Bridge project is underway, as part of the Site Improvements, Security and Infrastructure main project. The existing bridge was a wood structure and had become structurally unstable due to dry rot. The new bridge will be constructed of steel and concrete, have a longer life span, and will meet current ADA regulations.

• February 2022: Demolition of existing bridge
• March 2022: Construction of new bridge
• June 2022: Anticipated project completion

The Boiler and Hot Water Piping Replacement project is anticipated to complete this month. This project replaces the failing infrastructure on the Gavilan Gilroy Campus. The newly installed boilers will also reduce emissions and improve air quality.

Upcoming Projects in Design

Library and Student Resource Center (LSRC)

Construction of a new, state of the art Library and Student Resource Center. The new Library will replace the aging Library and incorporate Student Services functions into one location.

Schedule:

• August 2021: Started revised programming
• January 2022: Criteria documents started
• April 2022: Selection of the Design-Build-Entity (DBE) begins
• November 2022: Design and construction documents to be completed
• November 2023: Division of State Architect (DSA) review begins
• November 2024: Start of construction
• December 2026: Building occupancy

STEM Center

Modernization of existing facilities and new construction of a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Center. This project will include general lecture classrooms, science and computer labs, study areas, and faculty and support staff offices.

Schedule:

• January 2022: Criteria documents started
• May 2022: Selection of the Design-Build-Entity (DBE) begins
• December 2022: Design and construction documents
• January 2024: Division of State Architect (DSA) review begins
• November 2024: New Biology building construction starts (Phase 1)
• October 2026: Life Science building modernization starts (Phase 2)
• January 2028: Project completion

Theater Modernization

The Theater Modernization project is home to the theater program, and will include upgrades to the theater, classrooms, scene shop, rehearsal rooms, offices and storage for props and equipment.

Schedule:

• January 2022: Building assessments begin
• March 2022: Design phase starts
• May 2022: Hazmat investigation begins
• September 2022: Construction documents start
• January 2023: Division of State Architect (DSA) review starts
• October 2023: Public bidding starts
• March 2024: Construction begins
• November 2025: Building occupancy
