Dear TeamChild Community,

This holiday season, we are counting down our top 10 highlights of the year. We believe that youth are not broken, but sometimes systems are. Our next highlight is our Education Advocacy.

This year, TeamChild attorneys represented hundreds of young people to help them stay connected to school. School connectedness is one of the strongest protective factors against juvenile court involvement. When school districts push students out through discipline, online placements, or inadequate support that leads to truancy or dropout, problems grow rather than resolve.

TeamChild advocated to reduce suspensions and expulsions; secure appropriate special education services; return students from online placements to in-person learning; obtain transportation for students experiencing homelessness; and recover educational services lost through wrongful exclusion. These efforts have created real opportunities for our clients. This year, we are celebrating several long-time clients who have earned their diplomas - cheers to these youth!
