TALKING TOURISM

Issue 810 Thursday, 20 June 2024

Kaya ,

A major win for women’s football, exhilarating trackside action, and wellness in Australia’s South West – this week is a fantastic example of the diversity of tourism experiences we offer here in Western Australia.

Earlier this week, football fans were thrilled to hear a mega women’s football tournament is coming to Perth. The Perth International Football Cup will see three teams from the Women’s Super League (WSL), the highest profile women's football league in the world, compete alongside Paris Saint-Germain from France's top women's league, Division 1 Féminine.

The announcement follows the success of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 which generated over $25 million for the WA economy, along with the recently announced AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 to be hosted in Australia.

From football to what is billed as the ‘greatest racing spectacle on dirt’, in a thrilling win for WA, we have secured two rounds of the World Supercross Championship for later this year. Perth will be the only Australian destination and will host two legs of the global 2024 event.

It is fitting to host this event in Western Australia, where we have proven experience in delivering adrenaline-fuelled events and we can’t wait to welcome thousands of supercross fans to Perth soon.

Earlier this week I joined a panel of tourism industry representatives at an event in Margaret River to support Australia’s South West in the launch of a new Wellness Tourism Strategy 2024, which Tourism WA was pleased to support through a grant.

I commend Australia’s South West for developing the 10-year strategy to guide industry and look forward to seeing it implemented.

Warm regards,

Steph

A/Managing Director
