NEWS UPDATE08 August 2025 Publishers noteWelcome to this week’s edition of Marine Business News. There has not been any official news that I know of, since the announcement that the Yamaha Group acquired leading aluminium boat manufacturer Telwater. In that April announcement, they said that “the acquisition is contingent on obtaining the clearances, permits, etc., required by competition laws and other regulations.” Last week, on 31 July, the ACCC sent “Interested” parties a letter seeking feedback. Whilst I am no expert, I would envisage that this is nothing to be concerned about and in fact, I would suggest feedback from industry can only help the process. In my opinion, Telwater has for decades played an important role in starting people’s passion for boating that goes on for a lifetime. Yes, there is no question that there are many other categories of boating that do that as well, but it is irrefutable that the humble tinnie, many that have come out of the Telwater establishment, have been instrumental in starting boating passions across the country. Let’s hope common sense applies from all parties. We hope for the best outcome, to ensure one of our industry’s important manufacturers can blossom from the Yamaha ownership. Also in this week’s news, we head to Southeast Queensland, where momentum continues with several upgrades and announcements. One of the standout stories is Southport Yacht Club’s decision to engage Marine Structures to deliver a full-scale overhaul of their marina, great news for members and the wider boating public. And finally, congratulations to the Marina Industries Association on securing its own office premises—a significant and strategic milestone that strengthens its ability to invest in the future and continue supporting the long-term prosperity of its members. We do hope you enjoy this week’s news. Marine Business News is an Australian-owned marine industry news service publishing local and international news.
