Dear Parents & Carers,The month of May seems to have whizzed by, we've had lots of fun in the setting and the weather has been kind so we've been making good use of our outside space. As we approach the last half term of the year, we are getting ready to wish our oldest children 'farewell' as they prepare for the next part of their learning journey and start their transition to 'big school' in September. For those moving onto Stratton and Bude primary schools, please see the note about transitions further down in this newsletter. There are a couple of dates that I would like to draw your attention to: 1) On Friday 2nd June in the afternoon there is an outing planned to walk to Bude canal and feed the ducks. 2) Please make sure that Monday 26th June is in your diaries - the date for the Dolphins Sports Day. It promises to be a great day, more details to follow in due course. With kind regards, Tahira White Early Years Manager Planning for week commencing 5th JuneDolphins will be learning about the 'colour monster' and talking about friendships. Discussions will take place around feelings and emotions and how best to solve a disagreement if one occurs with their classmates. Using the colours in the book the children will take part in craft activities. The children have been working hard on their phonic knowledge using the read, write inc programme which they will be learning at primary school. We will continue to plan activities to support all the children in this crucial area. Sealions and Little Turtles will be engaged in activities incorporating the story 'The Hungry Caterpillar' which is a firm favourite with all the children. They will be learning to count from 1-5 using real examples of the fruit in the book. The children will help to prepare snack using some of the fruit depicted in the story. Sensory activities will be planned helping to make green playdough, fruit printing and posting pictures of the different food in the story. What does the 2023 budget mean for parents? As you will have seen from the 2023 budget, the government is keen to support parents back to work to enable the UK economy to continue growing. By making childcare cheaper and more accessible, the plan is to reduce some of the barriers that may be preventing some parents from going back to work. You can find out more about the planned changes to childcare by clicking the button below. St Petroc's School Nursery libraryWe are currently in the process of providing a library area for all the children to use in the porch area. Please encourage your child/ren to utilise this facility. Save the date!Dolphins Sports Day - on Monday 26th June we will be holding the Dolphins Sports Day. Letters clarifying details will be sent out after the half-term. Once all the children return after the break we will begin to practice races and different skills in preparation for the big day. TapestryA huge thank you to those parents who have been sharing their children's achievements and interests at home and posting them onto the children's journals. It is very much appreciated we do value your contribution as it gives the children the opportunity to develop their communication skills and a real sense of pride. Transitions to Primary SchoolBude Infants Mrs Anne Garrad the Deputy Head and Reception class teacher has visited the children who will be attending Bude infants in September. Letters have been sent out by the school inviting you and your child to spend some time in the school for the taster sessions in preparation for the school. Stratton School On Tuesday 27th June Ms Sophie Horton is hoping to visit the children who will be attending Stratton School in September. More details will follow nearer the time. A few photos......of what the children have been up to in the setting this month. Lots of sensory activities, and lots of outdoor play in the sunshine. Just perfect! Sun hats and sun creamWith the warmer weather now upon us, just a polite reminder that children should arrive at the setting with sun cream on (plus a named bottle in their bag so we can apply more as needed) plus a sun hat. Thank you! Polite request - suitable footwearThere has been a number of accidents due to some of the footwear the children have been wearing when attending the setting. Please can you ensure children are wearing properly fitted shoes as flip flops and sandals are not giving them enough support when moving around the environment indoors and outdoors. Kind Regards, Tahira White Early Years Manager Designated Safeguarding Lead |
