NEWS UPDATE16 October 2026 Publishers noteI write this note early on Thursday morning as I prepare to visit the Melbourne Boat Show. I managed a quick walk around yesterday, without a hi-vis vest, although probably not needed given the show shares its space with a busy public thoroughfare. I must admit, I’m guilty of not having visited the show before, but I’m certainly glad to be doing so this year. I’ve been drawn to it for several reasons, not least the pride and enthusiasm coming from exhibitors, and the steady stream of information about what they have planned for the event. This week, we also have some great people stories to share. We had the opportunity to speak with Martin Baum from Pantaenius, report on Cath Beaufort OAM becoming the first female Commodore of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria in its more than 170-year history, and recognise Mercury Marine founder Carl Kiekhaefer, who has been honoured with induction into the inaugural Wisconsin Sailing & Maritime Hall of Fame. And while Metstrade has announced its Women in the Marine Industry International panel for this year's event, closer to home, as our Marine Business eNews lands in your inbox, I’ll be on my way to attend the Women on Water session at the Melbourne Boat Show. It promises to be an interesting discussion, featuring a formidable line-up of industry leaders. I hope you enjoy this week’s eNews, and for those of you in Melbourne, I hope our paths cross at the show. We do hope you enjoy this week’s Marine Business News. #ETRWYW Marine Business News is an Australian-owned marine industry news service publishing local and international news.
