Happy Halloween to all!

I hope your Halloween festivities provide you with welcome relief from the tensions of the day and prepare you well for the horror that will be the 2011 Academic Senate Fall Plenary... I am, of course, kidding – but have to acknowledge that the volume of resolutions and the complexity of their subject matter is a bit terrifying. Due to the volume, there has been some discussion about creating a “consent calendar” to expedite the adoption of non-controversial resolutions. ANY delegate, just one, would be able to remove an item from the consent calendar. The concept is merely being explored at the present time, but may be implemented if there are no objections.

Academic Senate 2011 Fall Plenary Session: For the Common Good

Faculty from across the state will be convening from November 3 - 5, 2011 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Not registered? It’s not too late to join us – register here.

In the interest of sustainability, the Academic Senate events are “paper-lite”. Breakout handouts and presentations will be posted on our website as we receive them. Please click here to download and preview these documents.

Free wireless internet will be available in the hotel lobby only. Attendees not staying at the hotel can ask the front desk for a generic password for the day. You are encouraged to download the materials prior to your arrival.

Program
A full program is now available for preview. Each registered attendee will receive a copy of a program.

Got Bags?
In an effort to be more cost effective, the Senate will not be handing out bags for Session materials this year. We encourage you to bring your own bag from a past Session to carry your materials.

Where Are You Going?

Hot Off the Press: Perspectives on 1143 and 1440

The November 2011 issue of the Rostrum is now available for download. This focused Rostrum offers varied perspectives on the Student Success Task Force recommendations (including the role of the faculty members of the Task Force) and the implementation of associate degrees for transfer (as mandated by Senate Bill 1440).

It also includes a remembrance of Edith Conn. Edith served on the Academic Senate Executive Committee for over 27 years.

We encourage you to read through the Rostrum in advance of the Plenary Session.

Upcoming Student Success Task Force Public Forums

We continue to encourage faculty to offer feedback on the recommendations and to attend any events that you can. Each and every presentation of the recommendations provides a chance for the Chancellor’s Office staff and/or Task Force members to hear your concerns – and, of course, to answer your questions. If the events below are in your area, we encourage you to attend – and to encourage your colleagues to do so as well. Further details about each event – and other related resources – are available on the Academic Senate website.
