NEWS UPDATE

31 October 2025

Publishers note

In news this week, the iconic Wild Oats XI begins a new chapter under the ownership of Palm Beach Motor Yachts, where it will soon be seen on the water as Palm Beach XI. Given the vessel’s remarkable history and status within the boating fraternity, there could hardly be a more fitting home. Mark Richards, founder and CEO of Palm Beach Motor Yachts, has shared an extraordinary and enduring relationship with the Oatley family, skippering Wild Oats XI to numerous ocean-racing victories, including nine Rolex Sydney Hobart wins. We look forward to seeing it line up on Boxing Day for the Sydney to Hobart under its new name and colours.

Also making news, the Royal Australian Navy Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour has arrived back in Sydney after completing its final circumnavigation of Australia, a significant milestone in the vessel’s 37-year history. Over the decades, Young Endeavour has provided thousands of young Australians with unique opportunities to learn leadership, teamwork, and seamanship.

And finally, a key piece of marine and tourism infrastructure has come to market, with Sentinel Property Group offering the Port of Airlie – Cruise Whitsundays terminal and marina – for sale. I vividly recall visiting this facility some years ago, and it remains one of the most beautiful waterfront locations I have experienced.

We do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
