Cures Act Open Notes Sharing Requirement
Starts Friday, Dec. 31 To align with 21st Century Cures Act requirements, starting Friday, Dec. 31, HM will auto-release USCDI V1 Clinical Note types to MyChart — unless the provider deems auto-releasing may cause patient harm or the patient requests. Sharing notes benefits our patients — empowering them to be more involved in their care, improving patient safety and supporting provider-patient partnerships. Remember, patients and parents/guardians have always had a legal
right to access their medical records, including clinical notes. Under this new law, they’ll now have easy, electronic access to this information. For more information, including links to training resources, read the full article.
For HM Apple Mac Owners
Action Required: Update Your Apple Mac Operating System
Effective Now Through Friday, Dec. 31 As a reminder, all HM Mac devices must be on the latest operating system, macOS 12.0 or macOS Monterey, by Friday, Dec. 31, to meet HM security requirements. Non-compliant devices put HM at risk, and won't have access to HM resources or our network.
How do I update my device?
Go to Settings and click General, then Software Update. Visit Apple Support for instructions on updating your device. It's recommended that you back up your device or data to iCloud or an external drive before upgrading your machine. For instructions on how to back up your Mac, click here.

PatientSafetyNet To Become TAPS, Adds New Functionality
Launches February 2022Starting in February 2022, employee reporting of potential safety issues will move from Patient SafetyNet (PSN) to Transparency and Accountability in Patient Safety (TAPS). In addition to a new name, TAPS will have a refreshed look and feel – but your workflows should remain the same. For managers and directors, TAPS will provide additional alerting and reporting functionality, including an ability to track actionable follow up. To prepare, impacted managers and directors will be invited to virtual training sessions by their entity quality directors. Available training dates include: - Tuesday, Dec. 28, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1-2 p.m.
- If you're unable to attend these dates, LMS virtual training will also be available in January.
TAPS will be used to report any patient safety concerns, including but not limited to unexpected outcomes, staff issues and/or malfunctioning equipment or medical devices. These tools also provide a safe place to record issues and concerns without documenting on the patients’ legally accessible medical record. More information on TAPS will be shared closer to the program launch.

No Surprises Act – New Billing Protections for Patients
Effective Saturday, Jan. 1Starting Saturday, Jan. 1, patients getting emergency care, out-of-network non-emergency care at in-network facilities or out-of-network air ambulance services will have new billing protections through the No Surprises Act. This act is a result of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, that went into effect in December 2020 and contained many provisions to help protect consumers from surprise bills, including the No Surprises Act.
Please ensure patients are provided appropriate good faith estimates for hospital and professional services. For more information, review this tip sheet.
