Headteacher updateDear Parents & Carers, March was a month full of celebrations and visits from our local community. I was very pleased to see pupils engaging enthusiastically in these events, with visitors even contacting me after the event to express how impressed they were with the pupil's engagement and interest. Although April has been a relatively short month for us due to the Easter break, we have still managed to include some really exciting opportunities both on and offsite for our Pupils. We also look forward to Autism Appreciation Week in May, more details of which you will find further down in this newsletter. Just a polite reminder that the 1st and 8th of May are bank holidays, so school will be closed on those dates. With kind regards, Thereza de Lucca Headteacher Benefits of climbingOur pupils have started to experience the benefits of climbing at The Climbing Hangar in Plymouth. Upcoming dates for your diaryPlease see below some important upcoming events that we have planned for the school, which parents and carers are most welcome to attend:
We look forward to seeing you there! Chair updateHello everyone, Hope you are all keeping well. I was delighted to see photos from the ‘Dress to Express’ day in February to celebrate the end of Children’s Mental Health Week by students and staff expressing who they are, their favourite colour or a feeling.I was also very pleased to see so many parents and carers attending the Easter celebrations at the school because parental engagement is very important to us, and we always welcome your views on what we do to provide the very best learning opportunities for all our children. With kind regards, as always. Julie Dr Julie Smith Chair of the Board Parent Carers CornwallIf you've not come across this website before, it's well worth a look. It's an independent organisation for Parents and Carers of children/young people aged 0 - 25 with additional needs or disabilities. Their aim is to gather information from Parent and Carers, and using these unique shared experiences, they take part in consultations and participation work which helps to shape the development and delivery of services to our children. As well as the website, there is an associated Facebook group that you can request to join (link is on the website). Parenting SmartWhen you have a spare minute, we recommend taking a look at the Parenting Smart website from Place2Be. It contains some really useful information and tips to support children's wellbeing and behaviour, including advice on talking to children about race and discrimination, bullying, divorce, gender identity and positive body image. Careers WeekWe had several visits to celebrate National Careers Week, including Devon & Cornwall Police who spoke to the pupils about what they do, and what other jobs there are that support the police force. We also had A Radio Supervisor from the Royal Navy (HMS Talent) come to see us, who spoke to pupils about potential careers within the Navy (plus some of his adventures!), and finally Trudy from Duchy College who spoke about courses and upcoming Open Day events at the College. It was great to see the pupils so engaged and enthusiastic about what they had to say! Easter PicnicA few photos from our Easter Picnic - such a lovely way to end last term. Thank you to all those who attended who supported the day in some way. Electronic cigarettes/vapingWe recently sent out a letter to parents and carers regarding the increase in young people using electronic cigarettes and vaporisers, and we have also now added a blog article to the website. We ask that parents and carers take a look at the information and links contained, particularly regarding the sale of these age-restricted products and the potential health risks. You can read the full blog article by clicking the button below. Footsteps of Discovery tripWe are very pleased to say that our trip to Nantilio Woods at Summercourt, near Newquay at the end of March with Footsteps of Discovery was a great success. The children took part in a range of activities including axe throwing, catapulting, den and shelter building, fire starting as well as fun and interactive group activities. You can read more about the trip by clicking on the button below. Plymouth Artists Together projectTake a look at what our budding street artists have been up to! Thank you to 'Plymouth Artists Together', who have been teaching our pupils to spray paint. Our plans for the King's CoronationWe are planning a celebration on Friday 5th May to mark the King's Coronation the following day. There will be a number of activities taking place around the school, including party games, a Royal Tea Party and creating a time capsule. Pupils are very welcome to come to school on this day dressed in red, white or blue (or even all three!) if they wish.
