Tuesday Edition
Hello and happy Tuesday, dear members! How has the start of your week been? I (Jarred) hope you all have had a great beginning to the penultimate week of March. Yes, that’s right! There are less than two weeks to go and it’s officially April. It’s honestly surprising to realise that — it feels like yesterday, we were all basking in the joy of another new year, and now, well, what do you know, it’s Easter! I’ll beat you folks to the chase by saying I’ll probably write about this feeling in a couple of months, when we’re in the middle of the year once again. Will you all humour me by acting like it’s the first time I’m pointing that out in the not-so-distant future? (Half) Kidding!
Now, that’s enough from me. I know what you lot are here for and it’s the answer to yesterday’s riddle! Here’s a reminder of what it was:
What is faster, and why: hot or cold?
Hold on to your seats for this one. So, the answer is hot. Do you know why? Because you catch a cold quicker! When I discovered the answer, my jaw was on the floor because of two things. First, who thinks of these riddles?! Second, I feel like I should have figured the answer out immediately, but I didn’t! Well, did you answer the riddle correctly? If you did, you know the drill. Scroll down to the bottom of today’s newsletter for your shout-out, you riddle master, you!

Who remembers when mum would whip up some of your favourite meals in the kitchen all those years ago? This photograph is of a classic Aussie mum drying dishes in the 1950s and it evokes memories of simpler times. Everything about this photograph is such a reminder of that decade, especially the fridge with the rounded edges! Ah, from what my folks have told me, my grandma, and maybe all mums, were the
authority when it came to the kitchen! In the house, if anything was ever missing, especially in the kitchen, you could count on mum to know where it was without a moment’s hesitation. Was your mum the same too? Don’t hesitate to share some stories with us! And if you have other memories you’d like to share with us, by all means, share them with us here on our Nostalgia/Yesterday’s Australia forum!

Got Health insurance? Your Premiums Are Going Up Yet Again*
A health insurance rate rise of 2.90% is what Aussies are being slapped with during a cost-of-living crisis. We’ve seen mortgage rates increase, grocery prices spike, petrol prices peak, and now our health insurance premiums will be increasing by an average of 2.90%.
From 1 April 2023, Australians over the age of 65 could be paying up to $167* more per year for their health insurance and that’s just for those of you who are not with one of the ‘Big Five’ health insurers - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - if you are with one of the ‘Big Five’ you could be paying up to $194* per year for the exact same cover you currently have.

Bright Orange Canna Lily In My Garden
Today’s photo of the day comes from member @Jan A, who once again has shared a stunning photograph of a flower. This time, it’s of a vibrant Canna Lily glistening with crystalline droplets of water clinging to its petals. Member @Jan A said flowers like this add ‘bright spots of colour’ to their garden, and we agree — see how that orange-peach colour tinged with scarlet just pops so effortlessly from the
background? Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful photo with us, member @Jan A. If you have interesting photos you want to share, don’t be shy! Feel free to post them on our Photography forum!
