Partner Spotlight: 11point2
From Liability to Legacy: Transforming Decommissioning11point2 is reimagining decommissioning as a catalyst for launching new energy ventures across the energy and resource sectors. By rapidly identifying, validating, and executing high-impact ideas, 11point2 transforms costly decommissioning liabilities into valuable opportunities that drive sustainability and long-term value. Their structured entrepreneurial approach evaluates untapped potential and finds transformational solutions, driving towards execution like entrepreneurs chasing a market opportunity. Case Studies That Redefine What’s Possible- Seaweed Farming on Offshore Assets: Through the exploration of repurposing options for an aging offshore platform, 11point2 identified commercial seaweed farming as a viable solution for repurposing the platform. This concept offers the potential to generate substantial revenue, reduce decommissioning costs by hundreds of millions, and create Environmental Impact Units (EIUs) to support ESG objectives.
- Renewables for Offshore Platforms: 11point2 developed a 30-year renewable energy strategy
for an offshore platform nearing the end of its operational life. This strategy capitalises on the region’s offshore wind potential, unlocking $700 million in annual revenue while supporting the client’s energy transition goals and contributing to the region’s net-zero ambitions.
- Green Ammonia for Maritime Decarbonisation: By repurposing major oil and gas assets in rural Australia, 11point2 identified green ammonia production as a zero-carbon fuel for shipping. This project revealed a substantial investment opportunity with a positive net present value (NPV) of $4.3 billion, providing investment optionality to become a leader in maritime decarbonisation.
While these examples showcase the ideas that made it off the launchpad, each began as
just one possibility in a broad portfolio of opportunities. 11point2 applies systems-of-systems thinking to uncover viable solutions by drawing insights from diverse industries—including defence, agriculture, mining, future fuels, space and others. This cross-sector approach builds investment optionality, connecting unexpected dots to unlock new possibilities. These examples also demonstrate how 11point2’s approach delivers triple bottom line impact—reducing liabilities, generating new revenue streams, and aligning environmental and regulatory objectives while strengthening community relationships.
Uncovering Opportunity: How 11point2 Achieves These Results11point2 has codified the entrepreneurial process, reducing the journey from problem to complete pre-feasibility study from years to months. Their Revive Methodology is a proven approach to create optionality for the energy and resource sector by: - Uncovering unique ideas through the power of systems-of-systems thinking, connecting the dots between diverse industries to find mutually beneficial solutions.
- Rapidly validating ideas by leveraging and creating new connections with an external network of global experts in their fields.
- Experimenting and testing hypotheses to learn and build on knowledge and conviction.
- Using storytelling and data-driven narratives to build conviction with stakeholders and executives to drive towards execution.
11point2 invites businesses to uncover the unseen opportunities within their assets. By partnering with 11point2, organisations can create bold strategies that turn liabilities into lasting value, accelerating the energy transition. A Reflection on EXA and the Evolution of the IndustryA NOTE FROM CODA CEO
FRANCIS NORMAN
Annual conferences provide such an interesting array of opportunities. They give attendees a chance and even an imperative to reconnect with one another at least annually, they provide a showcase of the latest thinking and technologies and at least for CODA, they also serve as a barometer to check the state of the industry. EXA (Energy Exchange Australia, as AOG Energy is now known) provided all of these recently. Great networking, the chance to see some exciting new ideas and if the interest in decommissioning at the event is anything to go by, a clear indication that decommissioning has moved from a relatively niche field to the
mainstream.
There were more than ten of our partners exhibiting across the floor, the decommissioning panel session on day two not only attracted a full audience in the 200 seat auditorium but also had people standing two deep at the back of the room, and the deep dive into our decommissioning outlook on day three attracted a strong audience. All in all, very healthy indications of the growing recognition that interest in the opportunities decommissioning presents is strong. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the CODA stand to say hello. If we missed you, please reach out. - Francis Norman, CEO & Managing
Director

Xplore Program Now Open for Challenge SubmissionsWe've developed Xplore to identify and test technologies and processes which can improve the planning, safety, and efficiency of offshore, or onshore decommissioning operations. The program connects challenge owners with novel solutions from within and outside of our industry and enables pilot testing of products and ideas on real data and projects.
If you have a decommissioning process or operations challenge that you think could be improved by an alternative approach or technology solution, let us know.
Updates from the Northern Endeavour ProjectThe Department of Industry, Science and Resources has recently published four new articles highlighting major milestones in the Northern Endeavour decommissioning program. These include the completion of the well suspension and flushing campaign, the disposal of the floating offtake hose, the dry tow of the vessel to a recycling facility, and the appointment of a lead contractor for Phases 2 and 3. A new dedicated Northern Endeavour news page has also been launched, making it easier to find and follow updates in one place. The main program page has been restructured for improved readability,
with a refreshed timeline now placed at the top. Additional changes include a new “Northern Endeavour work program” page and updated content on the OP Levy page.

NDRI (National Decommissioning Research Initiative) UpdateThe NDRI continues to do important research to better understand the impacts of decommissioning oil and gas structures on the Australian marine environment.
Highlighting NDRI's research at EXA Energy Exchange AustraliaNDRI research was recently highlighted at this year's EXA - Energy Exchange Australia by Darren Koppel of AIMS. The session, titled 'Recent Advances in the Environmental Risk Assessment of NORM and Mercury for Offshore Oil and Gas Decommissioning Activities', focused on: - Enhanced Risk Assessment Models: Introducing the latest methodologies for evaluating Naturally Occurring
Radioactive Material (NORM) and mercury contamination in offshore decommissioning.
- Regulatory and Industry Developments: Discussing updates on evolving standards and best practices for environmental risk management.
- Case Studies and Lessons Learned: Sharing insights from recent decommissioning projects to inform future risk assessment and decision-making.
We are proud that our research continues to contribute to the industry's understanding of environmental risks associated with offshore oil and gas decommissioning.
