A new year often signals revitalisation and renewal, and for us at Corrections, we are moving into 2025 with a refreshed version of our organisational strategy, Hōkai Rangi. The first iteration of Hōkai Rangi, released in August 2019, expressed our commitment to delivering better outcomes with and for the people we manage, their whānau, and our communities. Hōkai Rangi continues to represent our long-term strategic direction. We all want to see intergenerational change where each person can realise their full potential – for themselves and for the safety of our communities. Our refreshed Hōkai Rangi outlines three organisational outcomes: Improved public safety - Reduced reoffending - Reduced Māori overrepresentation.It contains a new purpose statement: We make the community safer by supporting people to leave us better and with brighter prospects.And it retains the six pou (pillars) from the original strategy to guide our work:

If you're curious about the role and the part our instructors play in Corrections, here are some of the key things to know! ![]() Corrections staff win at Public Service Day AwardsAt the Public Service Day Awards ceremony in Wellington, two Corrections staff were recognised for their extraordinary contribution to New Zealand - Dog Handler Mo, and Lead Service Manager Tina. ![]() Trades programme opens the door for employmentEight people serving community sentences in Tokoroa graduated from a four-week trades programme designed to give practical training, a recognised qualification, and increased likelihood of employment. The programme is delivered by Vertical Horizonz, with participants supported by Corrections Employment and Training Consultants and Employment Agency Kiwistaff. ![]() Otago Polynesian Festival an opportunity to network and talk careersOtago Communities, Partnerships and Pathways (CPP) and prison staff from Otago Corrections Facility (OCF) banded together on a stall at the 2024 Otago Polynesian Festival to help people learn more about careers at Corrections.
