Thursday Edition
Good morning, ladies and gents! How are you all doing this morning? Well, I hope! I (Maddie) am taking over today’s newsletter because, sadly, Vella is off sick! But it is an absolute delight to be back in your inbox on a Thursday morning. I absolutely love my Thursdays because I’ve recently started doing yoga once a week after I finished reading The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk. I am absolutely terrible at it, but I tell you what, I can feel myself improving every week and I do feel a lot calmer since starting it. I can’t touch my toes (or get anywhere near them for that matter) but it feels good to try something new and get outside of my comfort zone. I know not everyone here can do yoga, but what everyone can do is challenge themselves to try
something new! Maybe that’s trying one of our games, reading a new genre of book, or even watching something different on TV or YouTube! Whatever it may be, why not give something new a try? If you have started anything new lately, or need some ideas why don’t you let us know here?
Now, I know you aren’t here to listen to me ramble all day. You’re here because you want the answer to yesterday’s riddle. Before I give it to you, let me remind you what the riddle was…
A word I know, six letters it contains. Subtract just one and twelve is what remains. What is the word?
The answer is (drum roll, please!)... dozens! Did you get the answer correct? This one really stumped me and I could not work it out. I think the ‘subtract one’ just really threw me off the scent, I didn’t even think of the letter ‘s’. For those of you who didn’t get it, the reason the answer is ‘dozens’ is because if you subtract one letter i.e. the letter ‘s’, dozens becomes, dozen, and a dozen is equal to 12! A little confusing, don’t you think? If you’re one of the riddle masters who got the answer correct then you can expect a very well-deserved shout-out waiting for you further down in our newsletter. Well done you lot!
Now for our fascinating fact! Did you know that ‘a jiffy’ is an actual unit of time? It's 1/100th of a second. So when someone says that they will be there ‘in a jiffy’ and they don’t turn up within 1/100th of a second, you can tell them they are running late. 😉
So, what’s happening in Australia and around the world today?

When I saw this photo on the Australia Remember When Facebook page it put a big smile on my face. According to the image caption, ‘This old family photo was taken in 1950. It shows the neighbours talking across the fence, the old clothesline, the ladies wearing their aprons, the old paling fences and the gate between the two yards.’ I don’t know about you, members, but growing up, my neighbours and I had a gate built into our fences so we could walk in between our two backyards. We were incredibly close and spent most afternoons playing together. Not to mention, every Sunday night we had a BBQ dinner! It was the best way to grow up. Even to this day, I make sure I make an effort to get to know my neighbours! Do you have any fond memories of growing up with your neighbours?

Got Health insurance? Your Premiums Are Going Up Yet Again*
A health insurance rate rise of 2.90% is what Aussies are being slapped with during a cost-of-living crisis. We’ve seen mortgage rates increase, grocery prices spike, petrol prices peak, and now our health insurance premiums will be increasing by an average of 2.90%.
From 1 April 2023, Australians over the age of 65 could be paying up to $167* more per year for their health insurance and that’s just for those of you who are not with one of the ‘Big Five’ health insurers - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - if you are with one of the ‘Big Five’ you could be paying up to $194* per year for the exact same cover you currently have.
