October is National Financial Planning Month
Do you have multiple credit card balances and wonder which one you should pay off first? You’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself! There are two popular strategies to help you tackle credit card debt: the Debt Snowball, which focuses on paying off your smallest balance first, and the Debt Avalanche, which targets the highest interest rate first. Both approaches can help you make progress toward becoming debt-free. The key is finding the strategy that works best for YOU! Take a few minutes to review the attached flyer, then take the next step. Contact Daystar Life’s No-Cost Financial
Coaching Program to learn how a Financial Coach can help you explore your options, create a realistic budget, and develop a debt paydown plan that fits your financial goals. You don’t have to wait for the “perfect” time to start. Every step forward counts! Ready to get started? Reach out to Paula Castoro, Financial Coach, to learn more. https://daystarlife.org/services/
Ground Broken for Habitat’s Lealman Heights Community Via St. Pete Catalyst Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside leaders and staff officially broke ground Thursday on the Lealman Heights community in unincorporated Lealman. The development, at 4000 58th Avenue N., will feature 26 townhomes. Each two-story unit will have a three-bedroom layout of approximately 1,500 square feet. “Habitat, over the last five years, has built nearly 100 homes in the Lealman community,” Habitat president and CEO Mike Sutton explained. “It’s an exciting place and a desirable place for our families to live.” Infrastructure work on the project will commence “very very soon.” He added that the homes should be vertical by late 2027. Sutton emphasized that Habitat’s model is not a handout. “So, the biggest misconception is that we build homes and give them away for free,” Sutton said. “That couldn’t be further from the truth. The families we partner with have to have steady employment and show the
ability to pay a mortgage.”
Pinellas County School Board OKs More Closures Via St. Pete Catalyst At its Tuesday meeting, the Pinellas County School Board voted to close more schools and restructure others in response to enrollment decline. St. Petersburg’s Blanton Elementary and Bear Creek Elementary will cease operations at the end of the 2026-27 academic year. Clearwater’s Kings Highway Elementary Magnet School and
Lealman Innovation Academy will close as well. The county will also transition St. Petersburg’s Azalea Elementary School into a K-8 institution on the current Azalea Middle School campus. Azalea Middle School will be relocated to the Boca Ciega High School campus and renamed. Tarpon Springs Middle School and Sunset Hills Elementary will merge and become a new K-8 school on the Tarpon Springs Middle School campus in the 2027- 28 academic year. Tarpon Springs Fundamental Elementary School will expand into a fundamental K-8 institution on the current Sunset Hills Elementary campus.
