We are thrilled that China Eastern Airlines will be bringing back its special three-week, non-stop flights between Shanghai and Perth to coincide with the 2025 Chinese New Year celebrations, following the success of this year’s inaugural special service. China is Western Australia’s biggest market by visitor spend, with 66,000 visitors from China spending $303 million in WA in year ending March 2024. Another non-stop flight to China will be a major boost for WA, strengthening Perth’s position as Australia’s Western Gateway. Speaking of major boosts, WA’s economy surged by $104.9 million last financial year thanks to WA’s blockbuster calendar of events. Coldplay was the highest-attended event by out of state visitors on record, generating $43.4 million for WA. On average, visitors stayed for a week in WA and spent $274 each day. WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth was the most-attended and highest-grossing Elimination Chamber event in WWE history and the most-watched Elimination Chamber event both in-person and on TV ever. More than
18,200 WWE fans travelled from outside WA and spent a daily average of $347. The event was viewed in up to a billion households in 180 countries in 25 different languages, delivering exceptional exposure for the Dream State. Hosting FIFA Women's World Cup matches generated $25.3 million for the state, with more than 7,000 travelling from outside WA for the games. Incredibly, 80 per cent of those were international visitors, showing the huge potential of major events to entice overseas visitors. It’s also an exciting week for our vibrant tourism regions, as the 2025-26 funding round for the Regional Events Scheme (RES) officially opens for
applications. This is an incredible opportunity for regional events in the Dream State to be considered for funding from an available pool of up to $1 million. Significantly, that pool includes $150,000 of funding to support Aboriginal events as part of the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme (RAES) which showcases Aboriginal culture and experiences, through the leadership and participation of Aboriginal people. Good luck to all applicants for the 2025-26 round. Warm regards,
