As the days start to warm up, the flowers start to burst into bloom and the first of the newborn animals start to appear. An exciting new festival is set to ignite the senses and celebrate WA’s rich Aboriginal culture this spring. EverNow – a festival during Kambarang will light up Perth with a moving connection to County and a rediscovery of nature over a weekend of celebration. What's HotIgnite the senses and celebrate Aboriginal culture at EverNowA new multi-sensory festival celebrating WA's rich Aboriginal culture and breathtaking biodiversity is set to light up Perth (Boorloo) with five nights of sound, light and fire. EverNow will ignite the senses from October 4 to 9, 2023 during the Noongar season of Kambarang – when an abundance of colours and flowers explode across the land. The series of free evening events will be held at unique locations across Perth. Boorna Waaginy: The Trees Speak will transform the iconic Kings Park (Kaarta Koomba) telling the stories of Noongar culture through light and sound. Nearby, the Government House Gardens will be transformed into Fire Gardens, a dreamscape of leaping flames, shadow and wonder inspired by conversations with Noongar elders. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Gardens will play host to Song Circle - a live performance and celebration of Noongar song and dance. WA to host Australian-exclusive global rugby event in 2024 and 2025 Perth (Boorloo) will host the Australian leg of the HSBC SVNS (formerly known as HSBC Rugby World Sevens Series) in 2024 and 2025. This Australian-exclusive global rugby event will take place from 26 to 28 January, 2024 and again in 2025 at Perth's rectangular stadium, HBF Park. HSBC SVNS attracts the world's top rugby nations to play an alternative rugby union format which involves seven players competing in seven-minute halves in a tournament format with round robin and knockout matches over three days. Twelve men's and twelve women's national teams will go head-to-head in seven regular season events, with round three set to take place in Perth plus a Grand Final. A fan festival will surround the event and provide a carnival-like hub for visitors and locals to enjoy before, during and after the matches. Program released for Australia's largest destination film festival CinefestOZ The CinefestOZ Film Festival 2023 program release will delight film lovers with World and Australian film premieres plus Australia's richest film prize award. Set against the stunning backdrop of WA's South West region, the six-day festival will take place from August 29 to September 3 in Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River. Along with the four films that are up for the $100,000 Film Prize, program highlights include the World Premiere of thriller Bring Him To Me starring Sam Neill and Rachel Griffiths; the Australian Premiere of Ben Kingsley's new sci-fi comedy Jules, produced by Debbie Liebling of South Park fame; and, a not-to-be missed music event with special guests celebrating EGO – the story around Michael Gudinski's creation of Mushroom Records. Celebrating its 16th year, the festival allows film-lovers to connect with filmmakers and visiting talent at cinemas, wineries, restaurants, boutique breweries, small bars and galleries across the region. Tickets to the Matildas in Perth now on sale Tickets are now on sale for three blockbuster Matildas matches in Perth (Boorloo) this October and November. The three Matildas encounters are part of six matches at HBF Park between October 26 and November 1, which form round two of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The Matildas will battle it out against Chinese Taipei, Philippines and IR Iran in a fierce round-robin style tournament, with all six matches played back-to-back over three monumental double-header days. Captained by WA homegrown hero Sam Kerr, this will be the first time in five years that the Matildas have played in Perth, and the first opportunity to see them compete in Australia following the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Three–day passes and single match tickets are now on sale through Ticketmaster. WA’s aviation network continues to grow WA’s global aviation network is almost fully restored to pre-pandemic levels, with the announcement of a number of key routes returning. Japanese visitors will soon be able to travel direct to WA , with All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) direct flights between Tokyo and Perth (Boorloo) resuming on October 29, 2023 - with flights initially scheduled to take off three times a week. The first Citilink direct flight between Indonesia and Perth touched down on July 30, with the Indonesian airline now operating a daily return service between Bali and Perth, and three weekly return services between Jakarta and Perth. Singapore Airlines is also set to return to its fourth daily service to Perth in March next year, boosting connectivity from China, United Kingdom, India and Japan. In domestic news, Nexus Airlines took off on its inaugural flight on the Northern Route on Friday, July 28, departing from Broome (Rubibi), bound for Kununurra (Goonoonoorrang) before heading onwards to Darwin. The Northern Routes flight schedule will provide daily air services between Broome, Kununurra and Darwin – and has been developed to allow for same day connections from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide to the ancient wonders of the Kimberley. State of Origin returns to WA for two more years WA continues to be a global hub of blockbuster sport, with Perth set to host further NRL State of Origin series games in 2025 and 2028. As one of Australia’s biggest sporting events, the previous State of Origin clash in Perth in 2022 was a sell-out with a capacity crowd of around 60,000. The games will again be held at Perth’s state-of-the-art Optus Stadium, with dates for the matches and further details surrounding which games will be held in Perth to be announced at a later stage. Tours, Attractions & AccommodationsNew luxury accommodation in the Margaret River Region Chambré Estate is a new accommodation offering in the south of the Margaret River Region set on three hectares of charming native bush and farmland. Mount Hart Lodge new Kimberley experiences An authentic outback Kimberley wilderness experience awaits at Mount Hart Lodge, located off the iconic Gibb River Road in the Wunaamin Conservation Park. Originally a cattle station, this historically rich and rustic accommodation offers an ideal base to explore the wonders of the Kimberley. New for the 2023 season, the accommodation offering now includes luxury bell tents with single and queen beds – adding to the existing safari tents, campgrounds and homestead accommodation. Mount Hart Lodge Helicopter Tours are now also available, taking guests over the regions’ waterfall wonders – including a scenic flight over the magnificent Horizontal Falls (Garaanngaddim). Ancient empire of discovery now more accessible Exploring an ancient valley of giants has now become more accessible thanks to a major upgrade of infrastructure. The Ancient Empire at the Valley of the Giants near Walpole in WA’s Great Southern region has now reopened with more than 400 metres of new accessible trails for wheelchairs or strollers, allowing more visitors to experience a magical loop of discovery through the towering tingle tree forest. Spring StargazingExperience the dreamy wonders of WA’s night skies with a series of stargazing events this spring. On September 2, enjoy an evening under the stars at One Gate Farm near Darkan, an hours’ drive east of Perth (Boorloo), and immerse in Wilman Noongar culture with Aboriginal storytelling around a campfire, didgeridoo music and the discovery of Aboriginal star patterns. There’s also a family fun Springtime Stargazing Space Adventure under the skies of Chittering on September 9, with telescopes provided to get a closer glimpse of Mars and Saturn. Further details can be found on the AstroTourism website. Kaleidoscope Tours new experiences Mandurah’s (Mandjoogoordap) Kaleidoscope Tours has released three new tours this winter. Offering private day tours for small and large groups around the Peel region – an hour from Perth (Boorloo) – the new tours include an Underground Wine Cellar Experience with wine tastings at Peel Estate Wines in a private cellar with grazing platter, and the A Taste of Italy Experience where guests can enjoy private wine tastings and a behind the scenes tour at Vineyard 28 with an Italian flavoured grazing board. There’s also a new Sip, Paint & High Tea or Beachside Lunch where guests can experience a private art class with wine and snacks, followed by a high tea or lunch at a seaside location. Discover Broome’s pearling history with Salty Plum Social Salty Plum Social in Broome (Rubibi) has just released a new tour where guests can discover the unique history of Australia's pearling capital. Offering small group walking tours, the new The Pearling Master's Trek tour winds its way through heritage-listed buildings and the architecture of Broome’s Chinatown precinct, discovering the unique blend of cultures from China, Japan, Malaysia and beyond. The tour will also take guests through public art galleries and points of historical significance which make the pearling town so unique. Electric Vehicle Fast Chargers now available in the Kimberley The WA EV Network continues its roll out across regional WA, with the first of eight electric vehicle fast chargers for the Kimberley now operational in Broome (Rubibi). Located at Town Beach carpark, the 150-kilowatt fast charger allows drivers to top up their electric vehicles in as little as 20 minutes. The next EV charging station will open in Carnarvon next month, while construction has started in Exmouth, Denham, Derby and Karratha, with Geraldton (Jambinu) and Northampton receiving the first fast chargers in April 2023. The WA EV Network is set to be the longest in Australia stretching over 7,000 kilometres from Kununurra (Goonoonoorrang) in the north, to Esperance (Kepa Kurl) in the south and east to Eucla, with 98 charging stations across 49 locations connecting Perth (Boorloo) and regional WA. WA's pearl oysters build sustainability credentials WA’s iconic pearling industry is shining brightly after achieving its successful recertification under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) sustainability standard. With the initial certification in 2017, it became the first gem fishery in the world to achieve the sustainability standard. The recertification expands the sustainability credentials of the pearling industry to include hatchery-produced Pinctada maxima pearl oysters grown in WA's pristine northern waters, as well as the collection of pearl oysters from the wild. WA has the only significant wild stock pearl oyster fishery in the world, with most of the pearls farmed in Australia’s pearling capital of Broome (Rubibi). Food & WineRays brings flavour and palm springs flair to Port Hedland The North West town of Port Hedland is set to welcome a new Palm Springs-inspired food and beverage experience this spring. Thanks to a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of The Hedland Hotel by WA company the Prendiville Group, Rays at The Hedland Hotel offers a casual eatery with expansive ocean-front views, with a refreshed food, beverage and functions offering to include three bars and eight different spaces for patrons to sit and soak up the rays. The menu will feature quality produce from WA’s coastline and inland local suppliers. Rays is the first area to go through the venue’s extensive refurbishment, with the makeover looking to restore the beloved 1960s seaside hotel back to its heyday. Edward & Ida’s opens in Northbridge Perth’s (Boorloo) cultural hub of Northbridge has welcomed the opening of a two-story bar along the popular William Street. Edward & Ida’s offers a corner pub aesthetic at ground level, with a cocktail den unearthed in the building’s basement. This will be the third venue for owner Dimitri Rtshiladze, owner of Foxtrot Unicorn and Nieuw Ruin. The main bar will have a gastropub feel, with award-wining chef Blaze Young serving up a menu of comfort food classics such as ploughman's boards, chicken schnitzel and a variety of gourmet pies, plus late-night jaffles. The ground floor will have a beer and wine focus, with downstairs offering weird and wonderful cocktail concoctions. Originally built in 1922, the historic venue also offers a small beer garden and outside veranda area. Spinifex Brewing Co takes over North Beach Deli Spinifex Brewing Co is giving the popular North Beach Deli a summer makeover, rebranding as Spinifex North Beach. Located in North Beach, Perth (Boorloo) and with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, this WA-based company brings the flavours of the Australian bush to its brews. Patrons can expect premium craft beers, local wines, a new cocktail bar and a food menu showcasing locally sourced ingredients and native indigenous botanicals. Lantern lights up Elizabeth Quay A luxe new Cantonese restaurant will open its doors at Perth’s (Boorloo) Elizabeth Quay this month. Lantern on the Quay will offer a sophisticated dining experience with a lantern-inspired 140-seat dining room located in the brand new One The Esplanade high rise development. Led by executive chef Ricky Kwok, the menu will showcase WA’s premium seafood offering – including lobster, abalone, scallops and crab, plus WA wagyu beef. Margert River welcomes a new cocktail bar The Margaret River Region welcomed the opening of a new wine and cocktail bar this year – Rhum Burgundy. Located right on the main street of the Margaret River townsite, the small bar is a collaboration between the crew at boutique winery LS Merchants and award-winning cocktail bartender Billy Phillips. Spread over two floors with a nautical-inspired décor, the venue serves up a 100 plus wine list of local and international varieties, and a cocktail menu of classics and experimental twists. Perth’s latest inner-city brewery Perth (Boorloo) has recently welcomed another inner-city brewery to its growing collection. Phat Brew Club opened in early 2023, offering a 400-capacity clubroom with taphouse and on-site brewery, outdoor beer garden and restaurant. Located in West Perth, beer lovers can sample up to 16 varieties of beers on tap, and dine on an Asian infused brewpub menu. Cheers to local drops at the WA Good Food Guide Wine Awards Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Western Australia Good Food Guide Wine Awards, to be held at the historic State Buildings on Monday, October 9. A celebration of WA wine and the State’s world-class wine regions, the evening will include a curated menu of WA wines and produce, led by State Buildings Executive Chef Kim Brennan and Director of Drinks Emma Farrelly. This year will see a new set of awards, including a viticulturist of the year, best winemaker and overall and emerging producers, best experimental and organic/biodynamic wines, and regional awards to celebrate the top wines from each of the nine WA wine regions. EventsShinju Matsuri August 26 to September 10 | Broome | WA’s North West Tickets are now on sale for the annual Shinju Matsuri (festival of the pearl) in Broome (Rubibi). This year’s program is the biggest yet, with an exciting line-up of events and activities including the iconic Sunset Long Table Dinner at Cable each, the Jetty Gala on Town Beach Jetty, the Floating Lantern Matsuri, Chinatown Feast, the Shinju Opening Ball and the Shinju Matsuri Festival Hub at Town Beach, plus an exciting new event Marrugeka Mutiara – telling the story of the Kimberley’s pearling industry through Indigenous intercultural dance and visual arts. The annual event is a celebration of the diverse cultures that have come together in Broome over the past century for pearls, including Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese and Aboriginal. Lost & Found Festival September 7 to 10 | Bunbury & Ferguson Valley | WA’s South West Get lost in Bunbury and the Ferguson Valley wine region this spring with a four-day festival celebrating food, wine, craft beer and live music. Lost & Found invites visitors and locals to get lost in the bustling port city of Bunbury and the neighbouring Ferguson Valley wine region. Both regions will host a range of events held across more than 20 venues, including pop-up restaurants and long table dinners in barrel halls, wine tasting on horseback or mountain bike, cooking and art classes, wine workshops, and rocking hoedown. Margaret River Region Open Studios September 9 to 24 | Margaret River Region | WA’s South West Australia’s largest open studio will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, with a huge 166 artists and 44 studios from across the region opening their doors to the public for the annual Margaret River Region Open Studios. For the first time, the 16-day event will host two Art Ambassadors, renowned Queensland painter and sculptor Michael Zavros and Perth-based designer and champion of art and design Andrew Thornton Hick. Visitors will find artists in some of the most unique settings, from old timber mill cottages, hobby and dairy farms, to hay sheds, shearing sheds, beach shacks and breweries. Visitors will discover painters, sculptors, illustrators, ceramicists, printmakers, photographers and glassmakers, along with milliners and upcyclers. Yates Springtime at Araluen Festival August 18 to September 30 | Araluen Botanic Park | Perth Experience a kaleidoscope of colour when more than 150,000 tulips burst into bloom at Araluen Botanic Park in the Perth Hills. Set against the backdrop of the native WA bushland, the tulips have been blooming for over 90 years, alongside camellias, azaleas and grand magnolia trees. Food trucks, live music, craft workshops and kids' activities can be enjoyed on the weekends, along with the popular Araluen Train ride. Everlasting Kings Park Festival September 16 to October 1 | Kings Park | Perth The annual Everlasting Kings Park Festival celebrates the extraordinary diversity and beauty of Western Australia’s incredible wildflowers. During the month of September, a pink field of everlastings bursts into bloom in Kings Park (Kaarta Koomba), along with more than 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora. Visitors will be able to take part in dozens of fabulous workshops, tours, art displays, guided walks and family activities while wandering through one of Perth's (Boorloo) favourite attractions. Southern Art & Craft Trail September 23 to October 8 | Great Southern Region | WA’s South West Experience the rich artistic talent and unique venues of WA’s Great Southern region through art exhibitions, open studios, workshops, demonstrations, artist talks and public displays. Visitors can enjoy exploring the quaint and picturesque towns scattered throughout the region, with almost 80 locations taking part in the trail including wineries, homes, cafes, shops, district halls and pop-up galleries. Now in its 20th year, the annual trail takes in the towns of Albany, Torbay, Kronkup, Little Grove, Denmark, Walpole, Mount Barker, Lake Grace, Kojonup, Dumbleyung, Manjimup and Gnowangerup. Bloom Festival September 23 to October 31 | Great Southern Region | WA’s South West Celebrating the season of spring across the Great Southern region, the annual Bloom Festival offers a program of more than 40 events and activities showcasing the native botanicals and unique culture of the diverse region. Visitors can enjoy arts and crafts, exhibitions, fauna and flora-themed activities, food and wine events, guided tours and hikes, heritage trails, markets, Aboriginal culture, open gardens and creative workshops. The festival spans across the entire region, from Katanning and Kojonup, out to Pingrup, down to Bremer Bay on the coast, and across the Stirling Range and Fitzgeral River National Parks. Cape to Cape MTB October 20 to 23 | Margaret River Region | WA’s South West Australia’s largest and longest running four-day mountain biking stage race, the Cape to Cape MTB features almost 200km of world-class trails across the Margaret River Region. This iconic riding experience includes access to stunning private trails, vineyard visits to world-class wineries, and brewery finishes, plus some of the warmest hospitality the region has to offer. Fine Vines October 20 to 29 | Margaret River Region | WA’s South West Exceptional wine and extraordinary experiences - Fine Vines Festival brings together a curated selection of more than 30 unique events that celebrate the people, passion and places that have made Margaret River the world-class wine region it is today.
