Wine of the Weekend
Santa Rosa Estate Malbec 2016, Mendoza, Argentina

Not too long ago, Argentine Malbec first burst onto the international wine scene and captured the attention of consumers and critics alike. Approachable and exuberant, Malbec delivered unbelievable quality for the price. It’s still the case today and this weekend’s wine recommendation is a perfect example. The 1.5 L bottle format delivers even better value.

Tasting Note: This crowd-pleasing, friendly Malbec is one of the most affordable wine options available at the LCBO. It’s medium-full bodied, smooth and perfectly balanced with bright, lively acidity. You’ll find aromas and flavours of raspberry, cherry and plums on the nose with a hint of black tea on the palate. A spice-infused finish rounds out this charming red wine.
Enjoy With:  Tomato-based pasta dishes, pizza, grilled meat and veggies, and gourmet hamburgers.
Style:  Medium-full bodied and fruity red wine.
Terroir / Region: The Mendoza wine growing region is Argentina’s largest and most important. Vineyards are situated at the foothills of the Andes Mountain where they enjoy uninterrupted sunshine in semi-arid, desert-like conditions. The vines are irrigated with pure mountain water and produce grapes that are consistently excellent in quality.
Producer: The Santa Rosa vineyard provides all of the fruit for this Estate-grown Malbec. Vines are trained on a traditional overhead Pergola to encourage leaf canopy growth which protects the grapes from intense high altitude sunshine. Santa Rosa is internationally known for its high quality and affordable wines.
Availability:  Santa Rosa Estate Malbec is available all year round in the Argentina section at the LCBO.
