VIVID: The NSCAD University Newsletter for Alumni and Friends No images? Click here What's Inside? Message from President Peggy Shannon, PhD Dear Friends, Happy 2024! May this upcoming year bring you and your loved ones much joy. I look forward to reconnecting with you in person at alumni events across Canada, internationally, and of course, here in Nova Scotia. This is a very exciting time for NSCAD. Throughout 2023, I worked closely with an engaged committee of students, faculty, staff, alumni, board members, artists, designers, and creative thought leaders to develop a plan for the future of NSCAD. Committee co-chair, alumnus Duane Jones (BDes 2004), brought vision and commitment to these planning sessions. I am so grateful to him for his insight. Please join me for an alumni virtual town hall on Monday, February 12 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. during which I will share NSCAD’s vision for the next six years. We will also host a question-and-answer session at the end of the presentation. You are welcome to submit questions in advance to townhall@nscad.ca, or participate in the Q&A. Your input on our future is critical. Let’s discuss together how NSCAD can remain the vital incubator it has always been – one that challenges the pressing issues of our time through art, media, craft, and design. We may be the smallest art and design university in Canada, but we offer one of the most significant and far-reaching legacies: producing seriously creative artists, designers, makers and creative thinkers like you. I am proud to count you as NSCAD allies. Peggy Shannon Message from Alumni Association Vice-President Rachel Castellano (BFA 2011) Welcome to a new year! As the Alumni Association continues developing its strategic plan, partnering with the university and connecting with alumni, we’re delighted to see our projects take shape. Art has the incredible power to shape perceptions, challenge norms, and ignite change. As proud custodians of this legacy, we as an Association stand committed to fostering creativity, innovation, and a sense of belonging among alumni. This plan isn’t merely a roadmap; it's a collective vision, a tapestry woven with the threads of your experiences, aspirations, and NSCAD’s spirit. As we reflect on our rich history and celebrate the incredible diversity of talent within our alumni community, we are reminded that our greatest strength lies in our unity. Stay tuned for updates, events, and opportunities to engage with us as we unveil the exciting developments that lie ahead. Your creativity, passion, and dedication are the driving forces that fuel the NSCAD spirit, and we are honored to have you as part of our extraordinary community.
