Greetings from Laurie, Evelyn and the team at Millvale House MiramarWe hope that you have shared some lovely times with family over summer and through the festive season. Christmas Day at Millvale House Miramar was a wonderful time. Residents and staff enjoyed a delicious lunch and it was lovely to connect with whānau coming in to visit their loved ones over the holiday period. In the lead up to Christmas we enjoyed decorating our home and getting things looking festive. We were unlucky to experience a COVID outbreak shortly before Christmas. This created a trying time for residents, their whānau, and the staff. The outbreak forced us to postpone our family gathering which was to occur during this time. We are pleased to announce that this has now been rescheduled to Wednesday the 28th of February at 2.30pm. We would love to see you then. We were sad to say goodbye to two of our committed caregivers, Deepani and Lakmal, who have transferred to Nelson to join another home within our organisation. They made this change in order to be closer to their families. We wish them all the very best. The last few months have been a time of change for the team here at Millvale House Miramar. We have been so pleased to welcome our 2 new nurses, Jismi and Femy. Jismi and Femy have both come from India where they had several years of experience working in hospitals. We have also recently welcomed our new caregiver, Regine. Regine previously worked as a private caregiver in the Philippines. We are so grateful for the experience and passion that our new staff members are bringing to Millvale Miramar. They have fitted into our team beautifully and we are enjoying working with them. These new appointments have also meant that we are now able to utilise our long-time caregiver Ethyl as an activities coordinator. This is a challenge which Ethyl is taking up with enthusiasm. She is often found baking with the residents or just sitting and talking about life with them. For now, we look forward to 2024 and all that it may bring. The sun is shining and the residents are enjoying walking out in the fresh air. We have had new residents join us and we are looking forward to getting to know them and their whānau. We wish you a happy 2024. New newsletter format - an update from Andrew SheardI hope you’ve all enjoyed the summer as we have at our homes. It is a lovely time to get out and about and enjoy the garden. We have changed the format of our newsletters for this year. We know that most people receiving emails do so on their phones, this new format will cater to phone users better. It will also mean that we can send newsletters more regularly. If you prefer to read a printed copy we will still have these available at each of our homes. As with any new service we will look to improve as we go, so we will be asking for your feedback during the year. I’m really looking forward to seeing the development in our homes over the course of the year. We will have a strong focus on staff training this year, we are further upgrading our IT systems and continuing to focus on our cultural care. Lots to look forward to. We are also preparing for our Clinical Managers day in April. These have happened online for the past few years so it is wonderful to be able to plan an in-person session. These days are so important for sharing ideas and experiences from around our homes and improving the care we provide to each of our residents. I enjoy meeting families as I travel around our homes so please do say hello if you see me when you are visiting. I wish you and your whānau all the best for the year ahead. Andrew Sheard, Managing Director Magic Moment from Millvale House MiramarOne of our residents was unwell and not his usual happy smiley self. I went over to see how he was doing and I got the biggest smile we’d seen in more than a week. It was lovely to see him feeling better and having some energy. |
