Sean Engelbrecht, Commercialisation Manager at WA Farm Direct, was there to accept the award for the 2022 premium Australian Bravo® branded apple exports program throughout Thailand. “We are honoured to receive this award and excited about launching the new Soluna™ brand this season with Makro and Lotus supermarkets in Thailand,” Mr Engelbrecht said. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) hosted a WA stand at the CP Foods Global Solutions Exhibition in Bangkok from 29 to 30 May 2023, following a very successful WA stand at ThaiFex Anuga 2023 in Bangkok the previous week. DPIRD stands at ThaiFex Anuga and the CP Foods Global Solutions Exhibition showcased the diversity of WA's premium quality fresh produce industry, with WA Farm Direct being an exhibitor at both events. The award win is a significant achievement for WA Farm Direct and the WA fresh produce industry, and is a testament to the quality and dedication of the industry's producers and exporters. The variety, branded as Bravo® in Australia and Soluna™ internationally, is the latest apple to be released from the Cripps breeding line, a cross between Royal Gala and Cripps Red developed by a DPIRD (previously WA Department of Agriculture) team, including the late John Cripps AO, who passed away last year. Manjimup is home to the Australian National Apple Breeding Program, where more than 50,000 seedlings are in the ground from which new unique and tasty varieties will be developed to suit local growing conditions, enabling growers and industry to prosper. Australian winemakers across 74 producer stands and four regional stands made a big splash at Vinexpo, which attracted nearly 10,000 trade professionals from 64 countries over three days, as Asian markets spring back to life post pandemic. Visitors to the WA stand, and attendees at the nine masterclasses, hailed from Singapore, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Myanmar, Belgium, India and the Philippines. The WA wine promotion at Vinexpo was supported by the WA Wines to the World Export Growth Program, a partnership between the WA wine industry and the WA Government. The WA wine industry is planning to build on the momentum generated at Vinexpo and continue to grow its presence in the Asian market. The agreement is expected to boost exports by an estimated $10 million per year and help the Australian avocado industry meet the growing demand for avocados in Thailand. The improved market access is expected to help the Australian avocado industry maintain steady supply and pricing. It is also a further demonstration of the strong trading relationship between Australia and Thailand. WA produces 39% of Australia's avocados, the State exporting $11.1 million of the product in 2021-22. More... In a newly-released report, agribusiness specialist Rabobank said a combination of increased Chinese demand, the devaluation of Argentina's currency (leading to greater competitiveness) and a reduction in its own domestic consumption is behind the growth in the country's beef exports. Argentina's total beef exports in 2022 were valued at US$3.454 billion, up 24% from 2021. From 2010 to 2019, exports represented on average around 10% of the total of Argentina's beef production. From 2020 to 2022, this share has more than doubled to 26%. China remains the dominant market for Argentina with almost 78% of its beef shipments sent to China in 2022, and the Rabobank report said this is expected to continue. With Argentina’s position as China’s second-largest beef supplier and given the type of product Argentina exports, any increase in Argentina’s exports is likely to mean increased competition for Australia into this key market, the report said.
