A walk down memory lane in Silo Park...Have you ever wondered who helped to create some of the silos you see in Silo Park? Well, wonder no more - because let us introduce you to Ross Johnson, 88, who led a team of structural engineers that constructed Silo 6 in the 1960s. Last month, Ross returned to Silo Park, with three generations of his family by his side. He was also accompanied by placemaking expert Frith Walker from Eke Panuku and given a tour of his old stomping ground. Ross recalls somewhere in the region of 30-40 men working on the site of the six silos he was supervising, and he is able to recount in great detail the history of the area and how much it had changed in the last 60 years. Long gone is the steam train that used to travel between the silos and Quay Street over the Viaduct Bridge! If you're interested in learning more, read on to hear Ross' story.
