Keep valuables like purses, wallets, and keys with you, avoid carrying large amounts of cash, and never leave gifts unattended in your vehicle. Always lock your vehicle when unattended, stay alert, maintain personal space, and minimize distractions like cellphones and headphones to reduce your risk of theft. Coyotes During the Winter Months Winter weather may encourage coyotes to venture from the woodlands to forage for food in inhabited areas. Generally, coyotes are non-aggressive and spend the vast majority of time in the forest preserves; however, Northbrook residents should remember to never leave food outside or intentionally feed wild coyotes. Always keep your pets on a leash, especially in or around wooded areas, and keep your cats indoors.
