HELP FAMILIES IN NEED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

The Village of Northbrook is collecting toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program to help bring holiday cheer to children in need. Donations can be dropped off at Village Hall, the Police Department, or Fire Station 11 through December 11. We’re also supporting the Rotary Club of Northbrook’s Coat Off Your Back Drive, collecting winter coats for adults and children at the Northbrook Public Library, Village Hall, and Sunset Foods through December 15.

WaterSmart Open House for Customers

The Village’s contractor for the Automated Water Meter Project and Village staff will host WaterSmart Customer Portal Open Houses in the Village Hall Board Room on:

  • Tuesday, December 2 from 2–3pm
  • Wednesday, December 3 from 2:30–3:30pm
  • Thursday, December 11 from 6–7pm.

Sessions will cover how to register, key portal features, and ways to customize WaterSmart to fit your needs. Attendees are encouraged to register for the portal in advance or bring their account number, along with a smartphone, tablet, or laptop for on-site setup assistance.

Happy Anniversary Northbrook!
📅Tuesday, November 18
On November 18, 1901, Shermerville, now known as Northbrook, was officially incorporated as a village. The historic vote was close, with 35 votes in favor, 32 against, and two spoiled ballots, passing by just three votes. Since then, Northbrook has grown from a small community into the vibrant village we know today. As we mark this milestone, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on our history, honor those who shaped our community, and look ahead to the future. Happy 124th anniversary, Northbrook!

News You Can Use

Safety Tips from the Northbrook Police Department

The Northbrook Police Department reminds residents to stay aware while out in public, especially during the holiday season. Keep valuables like purses, wallets, and keys with you, avoid carrying large amounts of cash, and never leave gifts unattended in your vehicle. Always lock your vehicle when unattended, stay alert, maintain personal space, and minimize distractions like cellphones and headphones to reduce your risk of theft.

Coyotes During the Winter Months

Winter weather may encourage coyotes to venture from the woodlands to forage for food in inhabited areas. Generally, coyotes are non-aggressive and spend the vast majority of time in the forest preserves; however, Northbrook residents should remember to never leave food outside or intentionally feed wild coyotes. Always keep your pets on a leash, especially in or around wooded areas, and keep your cats indoors.
