Afternoon sea breezes cool the land as vibrant wildflowers bloom, traditional burns regenerate Country, and abundant wildlife signals renewal across the landscape. CELEBRATING KEITH PEKIN 18 Years of Leadership, Vision and Heart for the Environment After 18 years of committed service, strategic growth and deeply human leadership, Perth NRM acknowledges and celebrates the extraordinary contribution of former CEO, Keith Pekin. Keith’s journey with the organisation is one guided by care for country, trust in people and an unwavering belief in the long-term good that comes from protecting our natural environment. LAUNCHING THE REWILD PERTH GARDEN Bringing Nature to Our Home in Bentley November 26th saw the launch of the ReWild Demonstration Garden. Kerry-Ann Winmar officially opened the garden with a Welcome to Country. Perth NRM were joined by special guests, including major funders of the garden Lotterywest and the Town of Victoria Park, and the many people who came together to create this amazing space. Attendees were able to view the garden and see the many elements that will provide habitat for endemic wildlife and provide an exemplar for domestic gardens. CELEBRATE COASTCARE WEEK 2025 Celebrate The Coast With Us! From 1–7 December, Australians come together to celebrate Coastcare Week, a national initiative by Landcare Australia recognising the incredible efforts of the groups, volunteers and organisations who protect our coastlines. Here in Perth, we’re lucky to have some of the most iconic beaches in the world. But behind every clean stretch of sand or thriving dune system, there are passionate community members keeping these places healthy. At Perth NRM, we don’t just honour Coastcare Week – we live it, every week of the year. SAF DECEMBER 2025 UPDATE Final SAF update for 2025! The last couple months has seen Perth NRM SAF Tibby Tuckett venturing out to the north of our region for the Bindoon Ag Show and visiting properties, giving a talk to the year 4s at Gidgegannup Primary School on regenerative agriculture, and supporting training and workshops on things like iNaturalist and native grasses! Like every newsletter, there’s always so much to share in terms of project updates, new resources, the latest sustainable agriculture news, plus a variety of funding and engagement (training or workshop) opportunities for landholders in the Perth NRM Region. MORE NEWS Natural Capital Enhances Farm Production, Profitability and Financial Resilience: Findings from a study on 230,000 ha of farmland in Australia.Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) research, recently published in the highly respected Agricultural Systems journal, reveals natural capital enhances farm production, profitability and financial resilience in Australian broadacre livestock production systems. Working and Learning on Country During KambarangStudents from John Curtin College of the Arts and Fremantle College learned about Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and worked on Country during Kambarang. Annual General Meeting 2025 SummaryPerth NRM celebrated the organisational achievements of the 2024/25 financial year at the recent annual general meeting at the City of Melville Eco Hub. EVENTS Native Bee Habitat Structure with Dr Kit Prendergast aka the Bee BabetteeDr Kit Prendergast aka the Bee Babette is an expert on creating habitat for our native bees. Based on years of research and over 70 publications, she is identified not only the best flowers for native bees, but also the best designs for their nesting habitat - a five star B&B! Come learn how to create habitat for native bees, and see these designs installed in the ReWild Perth Demonstration Garden. 📆 Saturday 13 December MORE EVENTS WEBINAR: BUILDING RESILIENCE IN A CHANGING CLIMATE – GLOBAL LESSONSIn this webinar, you’ll hear from Western Australian farmer Sarah Mason and UK farmer John Pawsey who will offer insights into the lived experiences of transitioning to regenerative practices. They will delve into the practical, financial, personal, and social factors at play in all their decision making 📆 Wednesday 3 December THE GOOD AND BAD OF BEE HOTELSBee hotels are increasingly popular, but how effective are they? Learn from native bee expert Dr Kit Prendergast about what makes for a good bee hotel, and what to avoid with bee hotels so that they can be havens, not death traps, for native bees.
