Welcome to your moment to ROAR!
Issue # 26

Dear Friend,

Happy February!

When I watched the Grammys earlier this month, I was struck by the natural ease with which older musicians were a part of the program, from the wonderful Tracy Chapman, who sang with Luke Combs, to Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder. But it was Joni Mitchell's performance that brought the house down (and brought many of us to tears).

At 80, she showed the world that creativity and resiliency never end within our human spirit. Watching the faces of younger talent, such as Beyonce and Olivia Rodrigo, as they saw their future selves through Joni was the perfect intergenerational moment. The performance was proof that age shouldn't matter.

This month, we also held a spirited discussion on the future of work in the era of the New Longevity. Over 60 ROAR MasterMinders joined us for the live panel and others joined via Zoom. It was my pleasure to moderate three incredible people who brought insights to the discussion. Lynne Murphy-Rivera, Kevin Delaney, and Lindsey Pollak are pictured below. Expanding on the topic, I also hope you will enjoy my latest Esquire story, The Seismic Shift That’s About to Change the American Workplace? Older Employees, which you can access in the section below.

The MasterMind events and fall ROAR Summit are for our MasterMind community, and you can reach out to Jennifer Lanzarone at Jennifer@roarforward.com if you want to learn more.

I'm also excited to announce that we will be launching our Life Layering course in early April. This two-part course will give you the toolkit to start planning how you can live a more dynamic and purposeful second half of life.

We’re taking early registrations right now:

LEARN MORE

Every month, our goal is to inspire you with stories of individuals who are Re-Imagineers. Dan Tyler and Julie Chan are this month's profiles. One of our Re-Imagineers, Yolanda Taylor, will be featured on the TODAY show on February 23. She is a great example of a woman who re-imagined her life in her 50s and is now thriving as a stylist. You can see more stories at roarforward.com on the Re-Imagineer tab.

Finally, it was my great pleasure to join Estee Lauder at the blue zone in Costa Rica. As a part of their Longevity Collective, Estee Lauder has committed to educating and informing their customers about the New Longevity on their Skin Longevity Institute website. Throughout the year, they will be creating content that will help everyone live a healthier life and are a great example of a company that is embracing the importance of healthspan.

While I was in Costa Rica, I met Manjit who will share five things that you should know from a MindCoach. I've already learned so much from her about the importance of breathwork and more ways to keep myself healthy and centered.

At the blue zone, I was reminded of the core tenets of the people who live there. Embracing their principles can lead to a healthier, longer life for us all. Cultivating a positive mindset, adopting a plant-based diet, prioritizing daily movement, recognizing the power of restorative sleep, and nurturing meaningful connections within our community—these are the fundamental pillars of a life well lived.

This year is "leap year," offering an additional day on February 29 to pause and take some extra time to think about your favorite future. How do you want to ROAR in 2024?

ROAR by the Numbers

This year, the UN expects the number of people aged 100+ to rise to 573,000 worldwide. The U.S. has the highest absolute number with 97,000 and Japan is second with 79,000. Expect these numbers to continue to grow. By 2060, it is estimated that there will be almost 600,000 centenarians in the United States alone!

Take a Moment

I’m just back from the blue zone in Costa Rica, where I joined a Global Longevity Summit hosted by Estee Lauder. The Skin Longevity Institute has been launched to inform and educate people on how to have healthy skin, but also to live healthy lives in the New Longevity.

One more thing...

My friend Carolyn Murphy, who turned 50 this year, graces the cover of French Marie Claire with the cover line reading “Aimer son age”…. Love Your Age! It’s great to see style magazines celebrate women at 50 who are redefining how we are living longer in dynamic new ways.
