Sick of hearing from us every day? Click here to get the Sunday only send.
Happy Sunday, dearest members! I (Jarred) hope you are all doing well as you open this weekend newsletter. We are again at the cusp of yet another week, so let’s all take a deep breath and enjoy the passing of another Sunday. First and foremost, we want to wish all our lovely mothers out there a Happy Mother’s Day! There are few things in this world as precious and infinitely strong as a mum’s love, and we have no one else but you to thank for all you did, are doing, and will do for the sake and welfare of those you hold dear!
So in honour of this special day, I’d like to ask: if there were a word you would use to summarise your mum or ANY mum you know, what would it be and why? I know — why the ‘one word’ bit, right? But it’s just to get your creative juices flowing while sharing something with us at the forum.
If it helps, I (Maddie) thought I would jump in here and share the one word I would use to summarise my beautiful mum, Kerrie, and that would be ‘generosity’. My mum is by far the most generous person I know with every person she comes across in her life, whether they are family, friends, acquaintances or complete strangers. I also just want to give a big shout-out to my beautiful mum, Kerrie, as well, because I know she reads this newsletter every day to support me and I cannot thank her enough for that. So please, share with us your
answer on the forum post here! Both Jarred and I cannot wait to read it…
We’d also like to give a shout-out to the mums out there with strained relationships with their children and/or families. We’re sending you the tightest hugs today and share the hope that things will one day be better. And now, here’s a quote from Indian educationist Sadhu Vaswani:
‘True love is selfless. It is prepared to sacrifice.’
I (Jarred) must confess, members: I write this intro partly with my sister in mind. I have seen firsthand the toll motherhood has taken on her, and it beggars belief to see her tired eyes light up when my niece smiles after pulling off an entire day of tantrums. What better way to describe a mum’s love as a selfless sacrifice? So again, to all the mums reading this and to the ones we hold dear in our hearts: Happy Mother’s Day!
Now let’s look at what happened across Australia and around the world this week:
-
Coles, Woolies, ALDI, and IGA gave us some great deals, such as Goulburn Valley Peaches in Juice for $3.99 and McVitie's Digestives Plain or Chocolate Biscuits for $2.20. You can still grab these deals today!
-
‘He was a man of the land…’ One of the world’s most decorated cricketers has been grieving the loss of their father. May he rest in peace.
-
Two recalls were urgently issued this week, with the Federal Government warning Aussies about thousands of units of a popular vehicle and Food Standards Australia New Zealand sounding the alarm over a kitchen ingredient tainted with bacteria. It won't hurt to check...
-
The Federal Government also released much-anticipated details of the 2023-2024 Budget, which drew cheers and jeers — even among our members! Was it a hit or a miss for older Aussies?
-
One of the hot topics in the Budget earlier this week was the reported household relief included, which would see eligible seniors receive hundreds
of dollars in subsidies amid the cost-of-living crunch. Do you qualify?
-
A popular scam method was found to be increasingly targeting vulnerable Aussies, just as scammers took advantage of the Budget by sending malicious
texts. And don’t get us started about another sketchy trick scammers are using that involve public charging stations. Don’t miss these, members!
-
In other news, Woolworths also caused a stir when they said they were giving away an item for free — but only for a limited time. What is this mystery item, and was it even worth the buzz?
-
A crafty mum took inspiration from a $1300 luxe table and made a magazine-worthy version for just $180! Here’s how YOU can pull it off!
-
Over at Kmart, a $75 kitchen appliance is the talk of the town, and many shoppers said it made their lives so much easier: ‘This is the bomb!’ Is it, really? You be the judge!
-
A new offering found at Woolies hailed a ‘10 out of 10’ made waves, and delicious ones at that! But before you rush to your nearest store,
there’s a catch…
-
Speaking of Woolies, the store came under fire for a shopper’s allegations of a cash-withdrawal surcharge, which others claimed BIG W does too. What’s the deal, Woolworths?
-
Two major Aussie retailers were penalised with hefty fines for potentially endangering customers with dodgy products. Did they get off with slaps on their wrists?
-
‘Please have some decency.’ A public BBQ became the centre of controversy, and you’ll understand why when you see the pictures. Unfortunately, our
members also had similar stories to tell…
-
If you’re looking for a last-minute treat or just an easy way to show some love today, we have just the thing for you! Presenting: a five-ingredient dessert you can make in no time!
-
And lastly, here’s something funny I came across while looking for Mother’s Day content. This one's for you, mums!
Thank you for reaching this point, members! Of course, we still have much more prepared for you, including a tough trivia question, a joke from member @Luckyus, a beautiful picture from member @Jan A, and deals handpicked just for you!
But before anything else, you might be interested in dental, optical, and physio cover from under $9 per week! You could be eligible for latest government rebates which assist in getting cover from just $1.15* per day. Talk to an advisor now and find out if you're eligible and discover how much you could be saving.*
And lastly, don’t forget to enter this month’s competition! Post a riddle that hasn’t already been posted in our Jokes, fun and games forum for your chance to win a $100
voucher to either Coles, Woolworths, ALDI or IGA. The member with the best riddle will be announced in mid-June! So get riddle-ing, members!
As always, members, stay safe and happy reading!
