Good morning

Good morning, dear members! It’s that time of the year again when our delightful Seniors Discount Club team are enjoying some time away from work with their families, so you’re stuck with me (Maddie) until everyone comes back to work on Tuesday, January 2! I absolutely adore spending this time of the year with you all. I know some of you will be off celebrating with family and friends and that’s absolutely fine, there’s no need to open our newsletters everyday, but I also know many of you may be feeling a little lonely this time of the year, and that’s why we make these newsletters. Your Seniors Discount Club family will always be here for a daily check-in. However, I do want to leave a link to the many incredible professional services that are available to our wonderful members if they are ever in need. Remember, there is absolutely no shame in needing help, and these services are there to help you.

I’m no health professional, but I do recommend trying to do something today that lifts your spirits. For me, as silly as it may sound, it’s having a coffee and a piece of chocolate (or three) for breakfast. Not the healthiest option, but I know it brings me joy, and makes a big difference!

Now, a little update on our newsletters this week! While it’s just myself, and a few others ‘holding down the fort’, we will temporarily be changing up our newsletters – so you won’t be receiving our daily deals, our three-weekly riddles, or any afternoon newsletters this week. We will also be a bit delayed in awarding our Bingo winners their $50 voucher, but don't worry, when we are back in the office on Tuesday 2 January we will award the winners! This is so we can still spend some time recharging before a very big 2024... Regardless, I’ll be making sure these newsletters are as good (if not, better 😉) than our normal, daily newsletters. Now, before I bring you the latest updates from Australia and around the world, I wanted to know how you’re spending this week? Maybe you’re laying low like I am and just hanging out at home? Or maybe you have quite a few plans. Either way, I’d love to read all about them here on the forum!

So, what’s happening across Australia and around the world today?

Finding our own Christmas Tree

Yesterday

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’s’ segment is a memory that was posted in our Christmas Memory competition by member @Lorrainer! It made me laugh, because my family used to do a similar thing! ‘I remember when my children were young, we lived close to the bush, every Christmas we would walk to the bush and find a suitable fir tree. It was very hot, we didn't care knowing that we were going to take home a beautiful Christmas tree. I would chop it down, then we would drag it home, then put it in the bucket of soil. The smell was divine, so fresh and clean, then we would decorate it with handmade decorations.🎄🎄🎄’ What a beautiful memory, member @Lorrainer! Thank you so much for sharing it with us all. If you have a memory you’d like to share with us, post it in our Nostalgia forum here.

A Kookaburra or Two!

How incredible is this photograph taken by member @Lama? I don’t think I have ever seen so many Kookaburras sitting in a row like this! They certainly seem very happy to be using what seems to be some kind of bird bath. There is no doubt they have made themselves at home. Thank you for sharing this photo with us, member @Lama! If you have a photograph you’d like to share, post it on our forum here.
