NEWS UPDATE

9 February 2024

Publishers note

Our Marine Rescue groups make us proud, and this week has seen them active for various reasons. I am not ashamed to say that I am a real fan of these groups and the people who volunteer to help us. In this week's Enews, I have dedicated a section below to stories that have come out of Marine Rescue NSW. Of course, my admiration is not limited to NSW; I am equally a fan of all rescue services around Australia, and I would love to share more stories from all parts of this wonderful country.

In sad news, we've heard that Merlin Marine & Leisure Pty Ltd, trading as Stessco Aluminium Boats and Anglapro, was placed into liquidation this Wednesday. The ASIC notice reads,"Notice is given that at a general meeting of the members of the Company held on 07 February 2024, it was resolved that the Company be wound up and that Ian Currie be appointed liquidator(s).” Our best wishes to all those effected by this.

Finally, my congratulations to Andrew Fielding on his recent appointment. Andrew Scott, BIA CEO recently wrote that the BIA has “created two new positions within the BIA, these are Business Development Manager, based in our Queensland office. We welcome Andrew Fielding to our employee Team. Andrew brings a significant amount of marine industry experience to the BIA, having been involved in the BIA for many years as Director and President. Andrews’ role includes; local and State government representation, Education, Jobs and Skills including TAFE and RTO’s, Boat Shows and Sponsorship.” he added that the second role related to a “Business Support Officer, as advertised on the Marine Jobs website. This role will be based in our Rozelle Office, at the Superyacht Centre, on the Sydney Harbour waterfront. It is a part-time role, with a focus on bookkeeping, membership and CRM support and general administration.”
