Register for accreditation to export avocados to India

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has issued an Industry Advice Notice (IAN) advising that applications are now open for the export of Hass avocados to India from Western Australian for avocado farms and packhouses that already hold accreditation for the Japan and/or Thailand protocol markets.

Due to the timing of India’s announcement, applications for WA farms and packhouses not already accredited for Japan and/or Thailand markets cannot be accepted for the 2023-24 season. WA farms and packhouses that cannot apply due to the above restrictions, will be able to submit applications as part of the annual WA protocol application process for the 2024-25 season.

Avocado farm and packhouse managers wanting to export to India must complete their application forms online through the Australian avocado export registration system by 2 pm AWST this Friday 1 December 2023.

Australian beef production rises amidst global decline

Southern hemisphere beef-producing nations, including Australia, are bucking a global trend of declining production and registering increasing output volumes, according to Rabobank's latest Q4 Global Beef Quarterly report.

While Australia and Brazil have seen increases in beef production, these gains have been insufficient to counterbalance the production declines in Europe and the United States (US), agribusiness banking specialist Rabobank noted.

Overall, global beef production across "monitored markets" is expected to fall by 1% year-on-year in 2023, with a similar trend anticipated for 2024, Rabobank forecast.

The beef sector is witnessing robust consumer demand in the US, despite signs of potential weakening, along with reduced cattle and beef supplies. However, in Asia, weak demand and high inventory levels are putting pressure on the market. More...

WTO: Intermediate goods exports continue to fall in second quarter 2023

The global economy is facing headwinds in the form of stagnating commodity prices, rising inflation, and increasing interest rates. These factors are taking a toll on global trade, with intermediate goods (IG) exports falling by 8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2023, according to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

IGs are goods used in production, not sold to consumers, but to businesses that make products. Agricultural IGs include wheat, corn, soybeans, rice, fruits, and vegetables.

The WTO says global export of food and beverage IGs were down 9% in the second quarter of 2023. All regions of the world experienced declines in IG exports in the second quarter, with Asia experiencing the largest drop (13%).  More...
