Speaking of achievements, the waterfront has recently seen some of its new spaces become award-winning public places, read on below to find out which waterfront spots have had their time in the limelight. And it's not just public spaces that receive awards in Wynyard Quarter, soon some wonderfully wacky flying machines will be vying for a podium place in the 2022 Red Bull Flugtag competition. Ngā mihi The Your Waterfront Team Award-winning public spacesIt has been a bountiful award season for the waterfront this year. In October, two waterfront projects were celebrated as award winners at recent industry award ceremonies – the Design Institute of New Zealand Best Awards and the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA) awards. Tank Park received a Gold Pin from the Best Awards, and it also won an Excellence Award alongside Amey Daldy Park at the NZILA awards. Thanks to everyone who has worked on bringing these new public spaces in Wynyard Quarter to life. Red Bull Flugtag to take flight in Wynyard QuarterRed Bull Flugtag, the German word for 'flight day', will be hosted in Wynyard Quarter for the first time ever this December. After being postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions, Aucklanders can now prepare for a day of high-adrenaline action, with Red Bull Flugtag taking place on Saturday, 10 December 2022, from midday. The aim of the game is to fly as far as possible before landing in the water below, much to the enjoyment of the crowd. This is a free, family-friendly day and the best viewing will be from along North Wharf, Halsey Wharf or in the event zone on the bases north of Silo Park. We hope to see you there! The Art of Black Grace 1/5 20 November - 10 December, Karanga Plaza, Wynyard Quarter If you're walking past Karanga Plaza from 20 November, you'll spot a curious digital dancing exhibition set up in the space. Neil Ieremia (ONZM) and the Aotearoa dance company Black Grace, will be showcasing a state-of-the-art immersive dance exhibition displayed on a 360-degree LED screen. Each show will run for approximately 22 minutes, and tickets can be booked below. AMSAA Art Exhibition 2022 10:00am - 5:00pm, 30 October - 6 November, Silo6, Wynyard Quarter AMSAA Middle Schools Art Exhibition 2022 is a celebration and promotion of visual arts designed by various middle-school students across Tāmaki Makaurau. Over 30 middle schools participate in this annual event to celebrate the arts with the greater community. The exhibition will include student artworks and selected visual arts displays from participating schools. Come and enjoy this free event and celebrate Auckland's young talents. North by Northwest 25 October - 19 November 2022, Auckland Waterfront Theatre, Wynyard Quarter Head along to North by Northwest at the Auckland Waterfront Theatre to see Alfred Hitchcock's famous thriller come to life on stage.
