Headteacher updateDear Parents & Carers, I am very pleased to welcome some new faces to our school this term, both pupils and staff. I am so glad to see you all settling in well, and wish you every success. Various works have taken place over the summer holidays on the school site, including the creation of our new indoor gym area which I am delighted to see our secondary pupils making good use of. Our 2024/25 term dates have now been added to the website (please see link below), plus you will also see below some important dates for your diaries for this year including our School Community Days at the end of each term, coffee mornings and afternoon tea events. Lastly, I would like to draw your attention to the Safeguarding for Parents section below, where you will find some very important information about keeping your children safe online on platforms that many of our pupils are using. I hope that you are feeling a little refreshed and that the beginning of the academic year is going well for you all. We have already held our first Local Advisory Board meeting of the autumn term and have a series of meetings planned for this academic year, including Curriculum, Quality and Standards and Finance Meetings. We are being blessed with autumn days at the moment. I find nature to be a great calming influence and for our students, there is still much joy to be had in the simple pleasures in life, such as getting out in nature. I wish you all the very best for a happy and successful school year! Julie Dr Julie Smith Chair of the Board Next Coffee Morning eventYou are invited to our next Parent/Carer Coffee Morning event on Wednesday 18th October from 9am. These events are a great way to meet and chat to fellow parents and carers in a relaxed, informal way. We look forward to seeing you there! Safeguarding for Parents - E-SafetyWhatsApp is a free messaging app that children in the school are using to communicate with each other and in 'group chats'. WhatsApp requires a minimum age of 16 but relies on the honesty of the child and family to adhere to the age restrictions. WhatsApp is free to use because the app stores all data (images, gifs, video and texts) and sells it on to third parties. Who knows, your images and videos could become future GIFs without you even knowing. Children using WhatsApp and other messaging services are vulnerable as they are not deemed mature enough to navigate the services this is why there are age restrictions to reduce the risks of exploitation, grooming and bullying. Group chats are also particularly dangerous as they have the potential to spiral out of control, children can invite anyone in who then can invite their friends and so on. There will then be people in the chat the children do not know and could be dangerous. This is a real issue for our pupils. Please click on the button below to view the parent factsheet. Roblox is a popular gaming platform used by many of the children at FHHS. The game consists of 3D avatars that the children use to interact with each other or anyone playing the game. As the concept is very user-friendly and easy to navigate, this platform will be being used by the early years all the way through KS2 and 3. The game puts the user in different scenarios and challenges with other users - this could be friends or strangers. Roblox has no age limit and is used by children and adults. This platform can be particularly dangerous as there is no age restriction and very limited moderation. Unless children can self-moderate and report any bullying or E-safety issues, these can spiral. There are safety settings that parents can add to their children's account see the parent factsheet button below for more information.
