Did you know we offer specialist investigation and management of neurological conditions?Neurological cases are on the rise, sometimes attributed to the rise in popularity of certain breeds that have undergone selective breeding for anatomical differences. Problems can present in many ways, including seizures, balance problems, weakness, abnormal behaviour, circling, or difficulty walking. Early recognition and referral are key to achieving the best outcomes. We are proud to welcome Dr John Parker, RCVS Specialist in Neurology, to our Referral team. John has practised as a veterinary neurologist for almost 20 years. He trained at the University of Bristol before completing eight years of postgraduate training at the University of Cambridge in clinical neurology and neuroscience, combining advanced clinical training with doctoral-level research. It is safe to say, your pets are in good hands! His approach is methodical and detail-focused, with an emphasis on careful assessment and thorough investigation. John also holds the European Diploma in Veterinary Neurology (DipECVN). Referrals are supported with comprehensive diagnostics, such as advanced imaging, which can take place in the comfort of our practice. If you are concerned about neurological signs in your pet, we are here to help with truly specialised care. Contact our team for support today.

Now Offering Physiotherapy for PetsWe’re excited to now be able to offer physiotherapy services right here in practice, helping support pets recovering from injury, surgery, or those living with long-term mobility issues. Physiotherapy can play an important role in improving comfort, movement and quality of life – whether that’s helping a pet get back on their paws after an operation, or supporting older pets to stay active and comfortable for longer. If you think your pet may benefit, just speak to your vet during your next visit. They’ll be happy to advise whether physiotherapy could be right for them and guide you through the next steps. Here are a couple of our physio success stories below...
This is handsome chap Baxter, a lovely Labrador with late-stage osteoarthritis 🧡 He comes in twice a week to see Cindy, our in house physiotherapist, for laser therapy treatment on his shoulders, hips, and lumbar spine to help him feel more comfortable!
Meet beautiful Zuzu 🥰 We snapped this photo when Zuzu was in for physiotherapy; she gets physio and laser therapy twice a week for her bilateral hip and elbow dysplasia. It doesn’t stop her from smiling, though! Her dedicated owner practices her physio exercises at home to improve her active range of motion in both her front and back legs. We think she's doing wonderfully - gold stars all round!

Here are our top considerations for the summer season! NEVER leave pets in parked cars | Even on a relatively mild day, the temperature inside a parked car can rise to dangerous levels within minutes. Leaving windows open or parking in the shade is not enough to prevent overheating. If you suspect your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, seek veterinary attention immediately. Keep fresh water available at all times | Pets can become dehydrated much more quickly during warm weather, especially if they are exercising or spending time outdoors. Ensure they always have access to clean, fresh water and consider taking a portable water bottle and bowl with you on walks and days out. Adjust your walking routine | Dogs are happiest getting out and about, but during hot weather it's best to walk them early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Remember to check pavements with the back of your hand - if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for their paws. Know the signs of heatstroke | Heatstroke can be life-threatening and can affect dogs, cats, rabbits, and other pets. Signs may include excessive panting, drooling, bright red gums, lethargy, vomiting, confusion, or collapse. Certain breeds, including flat-faced dogs and cats, can be particularly vulnerable. Heatstroke is an emergency - if your pet is showing any of the above signs, call us straight away. Watch out for seasonal hazards | Summer brings a variety of hidden dangers, including grass seeds, insect stings, ticks, and adders. Grass seeds can easily become lodged in paws, ears, eyes, and skin, causing painful infections if not removed promptly. Call us if you're in any way worried about your pet. Stay safe around water | Many pets enjoy swimming, but not all are strong swimmers. Always supervise pets around rivers, lakes, canals, and the sea, and be mindful of strong currents, blue-green algae, and steep banks that may make it difficult for them to get out of the water. Be careful with summer treats and barbecues | Family gatherings often mean tempting food left within reach of curious pets. Cooked bones, corn cobs, onions, grapes, chocolate, and alcoholic drinks can all pose serious health risks. Stick to pet-safe treats and keep an eye on your four-legged friends around barbecues. Provide plenty of shade & somewhere cool to rest | Whether your pet is relaxing in the garden, accompanying you on a day out, or enjoying a staycation, ensure they have access to shade and a cool place to retreat. Cooling mats, damp towels, and good ventilation can help keep them comfortable during hot spells. Planning a summer holiday? | If you're travelling with your pet, make sure vaccinations, parasite treatments, and any necessary travel documents are up to date. If they're staying with a pet sitter or boarding kennel, ensure they have all the information needed to keep your pet safe and happy while you're away. We’re Here to Help! Whether it’s a spot of bother or just keeping your pet happy and healthy this summer, the Wolfe Vets team is here for you. Call us or book online to schedule your appointment today.
