CEO UpdateWelcome to the latest edition of Connections. As we wrap up our 2024-25 annual report for the Regulator (the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water), we are also diving headfirst into the strategies and plans that will carry us into the future. Looking Back: Annual Report & Looking Forward: Strategic Plans In late August the Board, executive, and I set aside dedicated time for an in-depth strategy session. We examined our performance, refined our vision, and mapped out the road ahead to ensure we not only continue delivering value to every member, but also grow the business. Strategy session highlights During our recent deep dive, we focussed on how to:
Advocacy in action As part of our commitment to both environmental and economic excellence, the Board has resolved that ANZRP will:
Work has now commenced, and we look forward to working closely with all of you to take this forward. TechCollect events July saw TechCollect stage an e-waste collection event on Thursday Island. Thursday Island is the most northerly location that must be serviced as part of the NTCRS and our team engaged effectively with the local community and stakeholders to run a very successful service. Servicing remote locations is often a logistical and operational challenge, and our team went above and beyond to ensure the event was successful. It was a great demonstration of the value that ANZRP brings to its members and the community. Member tours Last week ANZRP facilitated tours of two of our e-waste recycling partners in Sydney so our members could see firsthand the processes and outcomes that stem from the services we co-ordinate for our members. These tours were a great success with the members being highly engaged and having the opportunity to ask many questions about what happens to the commodities extracted in the recycling process. 2025 Climate Governance Forum Anne Stonier, our Chief Marketing, Communications and People Officer, and I were also very pleased to attend the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) 2025 Climate Governance Forum. This is an event that brings together leaders, experts, policymakers and investors to strengthen governance capabilities, better understand climate risks and unlock strategic value from the net zero transition. These insights and learnings are invaluable to ANZRP and help us build our capacity and resources to support our members in an area of increasing business importance.2025 AGM and final Member Forum for 2025 On the 20th of November we look forward to holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in person at our member Canon's office in Macquarie Park (Sydney) and also online. This will be followed by lunch and the final Member Forum for the year. Save the date calendar invitations have been sent out and we very much hope you will be able to join us. Yours sincerely, Carla Vasconi

July Member Forum - TechCollect Serving the Public Good In July 2025 Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform (ANZRP) was pleased to stage its latest member forum. The forum provided members with an overview of how they could advance their brands, grow their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impact and engage in a meaningful and constructive way with the community by leveraging the benefits of the TechCollect program. Member Portal Updates Explore the latest updates on the Member Portal:
EPEAT Certification Webinar In August 2025 Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform (ANZRP) collaborated with the Global Electronics Council (GEC) to host a forum for the benefit of members that centred on the EPEAT ecolabel. The EPEAT ecolabel is increasingly seen as a valuable tool that can provide brands with a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The session provided members with detailed and comprehensive understanding of the EPEAT ecolabel including the criteria that must be satisfied to obtain certification. The GEC walked through the EPEAT certification process in detail, covering the what, how and why - followed by a valuable Q & A session that encouraged great discussion. For those ANZRP members unable to attend these sessions, recordings and the presentation slides are available through the Member Portal.
ACE & Sircel Recycler Visits ANZRP was delighted to recently stage site visits for our members to two of our key recycling partners in Sydney. The site tours were well attended and provided members with the opportunity to see the respective and diverse operations of both Sircel Limited and Ace Recycling and gain insights of their respective processing systems. Members were particularly interested to learn how materials and commodities such as plastic and circuit boards were managed and how manual disassembly and mechanical separation were employed to achieve the desired outcomes. Any members who were unable to attend or are interested in similar opportunities are encouraged to reach out to our team at ANZRP so future visits can be coordinated.
Funding boost for battery waste collection in Victoria Victorian councils and registered charities are invited to apply for a share in $1.7 million in funding, to set up new battery drop off locations, helping to improve battery recovery rates and preventing batteries from ending up in household bins. Funding will be provided through the Circular Economy Hazardous Waste Fund, which aims to improve community access to battery collection sites through the support for the purchase, installation and promotion of battery drop off units.
EU’s new rules for battery recycling The European Commission has published new rules for calculating and verifying recycling efficiency and the recovery of materials from waste batteries. These establish clear and consistent calculation guidelines for recyclers, aiming to prevent unfair competition in the EU’s market for secondary raw materials from waste batteries. The rules have been established for batteries containing lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, lithium and other materials.
Building Australia’s battery recycling knowledge and capacity The Australian Research Council (ARC) officially opened its Training Centre for Battery Recycling at the University of Adelaide. This centre will train 19 PhD students and four (4) postdoctoral fellows in industry-partnered projects focused on novel recycling methods, environmental impact assessments, and recovery of critical battery materials to support clean energy storage and circular economy goals.
NSW to consider landfill ban for e-waste The NSW Legislative Assembly has received a member’s bill seeking to amend the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 to prevent e-waste being sent to landfill and to require e-waste to be recycled. ANZRP has made a formal submission in response to the proposed Bill, supporting the initiative in principle whilst making a raft of recommendations to optimise outcomes. TechCollect comes to Thursday Island Thursday Island is one of several hundred locations that co-regulatory arrangements must service as part of the reasonable access framework established under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS). Thursday Island is located in the Torres Strait in Queensland and in geographical terms is the most northerly location that must be serviced as part of the NTCRS. ANZRP, through TechCollect, was delighted to stage an e-waste collection event in July at the Ibis Supermarket there, partnering with Community Enterprise Queensland, Ecycle Solutions Australia and the Torres Shire Council to meet the needs of the local community. The event proved to be a great success, with 1,164 kg of end-of-life electronics collected, which was then transported by barge approximately 1000kms to Cairns then road freight to Townsville for recycling.
Member Konica Minolta to round up e-waste Konica Minolta is spearheading a partnership with the help of ANZRP and Macquarie University to round up and recycle e-waste as part of its corporate engagement and sustainability drive. The initiative will see Konica Minolta stage two pop-up events, at its head office in Macquarie Park and on the campus of Macquarie University. The events will allow local businesses and members of the general public to dispose of unwanted televisions and computer equipment free-of-charge and will run on September 19th and 20th. Members who are interested in providing similar services are encouraged to talk to the team at ANZRP, who can assist with the planning and execution of services that engage your customers and clients.
2025 WOW Awards Celebrating our people and values ANZRP has always recognised that its greatest asset is its people and how these people come together to form a team that is focussed on delivering market-leading and innovative e-waste product circularity solutions. To drive the culture and behaviour that we aspire to, over two years ago ANZRP has implemented the What Outstanding Work (WOW) program, which empowers all staff to do great work and also recognise the efforts of their colleagues. Each year ANZRP celebrates these efforts through the WOW rewards program. On 30 June ANZRP took time to reflect on what matters most—its team and the values that drive the organisation. A special shout out to the 2025 award winners who showed, through their actions, what the organisational values look like in motion.
