Friday Edition
Good morning everyone! TGIF (Thank God It's Friday) am I right ladies and gents? Many of you may already know we tend to use a slightly different acronym to describe our Fridays: POETS (p*** off early, tomorrow's Saturday)! POETS Day has replaced the term Friday for us here at the SDC ever since the term was introduced to us by one of our beloved members. Only thing is, we don’t plan on ‘p***ing off’ anywhere. We just enjoy your company too much!
Now, time for today’s events. First things first, we have a brand spanking new riddle for you! A big thanks to member Reg D. for sharing this one with us:
You throw away the outside and cook the inside, then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. What am I?
Uhhhhhhh… yeah no we’ve got nothing. Absolutely stumped! How are you guys faring with this one? If the answer to that is well, and you’ve got an answer ready to go, head on over to the riddle masters thread and submit your answer. If your suspicions are correct and you have indeed gotten the correct answer, you can expect a shoutout waiting for you in tomorrow’s newsletter! A nice little surprise to wake up to eh?
Before we jump into the news for the day, don’t forget to check out this week’s Coles Best Buys. There’s a few very nice and fancy bargains on there this week!
Now, what’s happening in Australia and around the world today?
-
After demonstrating her, let's just say…’unique’ way of making a cuppa, one woman has sparked a heated debate on the correct method of making tea…
-
Speaking of heated debates, one mum has received a mixed response to her child's potentially “unsafe” packed school lunch.
-
A Woolworths worker has brought a customer to tears after the most heartwarming act of service.
-
We all love a good roast chook, right members? Well we bet you don’t enjoy chicken as much as this lady!
-
Not so smart casual: A groom has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, after showing up to his own wedding ceremony in ‘questionable attire’...
-
Introducing Radiation Runway! A cancer patient has gone viral for her bright and fun fashion spin on the classic patient gown.
-
Ridiculously tight street forces residents to park illegally, and the council would rather fine them than fix the issue…
-
An ALDI Shopper has been left flabbergasted after finding the perfect buy for her kitchen reno.
-
Speaking of ALDI, the supermarket giant has left a small Aussie business owner heartbroken, after they released a product almost identical to hers.
-
A Woolies staff member has shared their experience using the supermarket giants new ‘touchless door’ and ah, the results aren’t great.
That ladies and gents, is the wrap of today’s news. However, there is plenty more juicy stuff where that came from. Just head on down below and check it out. For example, today’s joke by @m.e_trainor is a thrill all the way up to the hilarious twist at the end.
Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for (drum roll, please!) We get to announce the winner of the SDC Photo competition! We had so many fantastic entries, so we really struggled to pick just one photo. However, after a ton of debate and discussion, the winner of the SDC Photo competition is... @Palmbeach! She sent us a photo of her mother meeting her great GREAT granddaughter. That’s a few generations right there! And the photo took our breath away. If you want to see the photo for yourself, we have featured it in our ‘Picture of the Day’ segment below. Member @Palmbeach! You’ve just earned yourself a $100 voucher for Coles or Woolies! Congratulations!
Now as always, stay safe members, and happy reading!
- Jonathan, Vella, Sean, James, Dan & Maddie.

Who here remembers being asked to change the TV channel back in the day? How about smacking the side of the TV if the screen became fuzzy? Ah, this brings back many memories!

A Byron Bay textile designer has been left devastated after Aldi's new $49.99 picnic rugs look exactly like her $190 Bohemian designs. Sharnee Thorpe, the owner of the brand, Wandering Folk, has taken to Instagram to express her heartbreak, claiming that Aldi has seemingly copied her $190 best-selling picnic rug. Sharnee was made aware of very similar rugs selling for $49.99 in Aldi's Special Buys catalogue in December, complete with a leather-look carry strap and large tassels in each corner, just like the 'Wandering Folk' designs.
“After seven years of blood, sweat, and tears, this really does break my heart. Big retailers will always seek out boutique brands to follow, and I just want to remind you all that the creatives behind brands work so hard to bring their idea to life, and it really is like a stab to the heart when you see this happen.” Sharnee said. See what Aldi had to say about her claims by clicking the button below.

Compare Health Cover Now*
Three health insurance rate rises in the space of 18 months are what Aussies are being slapped with after a two year long global pandemic. Aussies were paying an average of $230.26 more for their health insurance after the 2021 price hikes. And now from 1 April 2022, a single person over the age of 65 will pay an additional average of about $75* more per year, with families paying an additional average of about $154* more per year.
What few people realise is that there are government rebates out there that could save you hundreds of dollars per year on your cover*. For eligible Aussies, the starting cost of a combined hospital & extras policy comes in at under $23 / week (or $3.22 per day) once the rebate has been claimed.
See if you're eligible for the latest government rebates to get health insurance from under $23 a week.

SDC Photo Competition Winner: Grandma's love
Today, we are pleased to present the SDC photo competition winner. A photo by our talented member @Palmbeach. She sent us this photo along with the caption: "My 80-year-old mother and her 1st Great-Great-Granddaughter on the day she came home from the hospital."
This photo captivated the SDC team because it conveyed not only the visual image but also the emotions of the subject. It tells a story that cannot be expressed in words. A truly remarkable photograph. Again, congratulations @Palmbeach!

Lawyers should never ask a grandmother a question if they are not prepared for the answer.
During a trial in a small town, the prosecuting attorney called his first witness, an elderly woman, to the stand.
The lawyer approaches and, to check his mental state, he asks: “Ms Antonia, do you know who I am?”
