Message from President Peggy Shannon, PhD

Happy summer, friends!

I am enjoying the final few days of a much-needed holiday. As artists I am sure you will appreciate how effective a period of rest can be in renewing your creative energy. Being a university president demands creative thinking and problem solving—very much in line with my training as a theatre director.

The big news this month is that we will be releasing our Seriously Creative Plan, which was approved by the Board of Governors on June 28th. The Seriously Creative Plan charts an exciting and ambitious path forward for NSCAD, building on our rich history and the incredible opportunities in front of us. The plan is the result of more than a year of consultation and discussion with faculty, students, alumni, partners, and the art and design community locally, nationally, and internationally. I hope you will take some time to review the plan. We are counting on our alumni and friends around the world to help us get the word out about NSCAD.

And speaking of around the world, I hope to see some of you on our visits to London, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Greece. Details can be found below.

However you choose to rest and renew, I hope you find some time this summer for yourself and your practice. I am full of energy and excited to move our plans forward.

 Peggy

Message from Alumni Association President Ashley Delaney

I love hearing your stories. About where life has led you. Your experiences and perspectives.

Before joining the Alumni Association, I wasn't sure what to expect though I knew I wanted to get back to my roots, support a community I love. I thought I would share more about the Alumni Association in case you’ve wondered what joining looks like.

Who we are: We're an organization that aims to enrich the alumni experience. Our Board of Directors consists of nine volunteer alumni members, two NSCAD University Board of Governors alumni representatives, along with representatives from NSCAD and SUNSCAD.

What we do: We collaborate on a clear action plan helping us,

  • Foster strong relationships: We regularly engage with each other, with the University, and Board of Governors to represent our global alumni community. The Board of Directors gets together virtually every two months.
  • Support future and present alumni: Through various communications support, we share alumni stories and opportunities. We're active on social and support a range of events, aiming to find ways to amplify alumni endeavours and stay connected. There are opportunities for various areas of interest.
  • Facilitate conversations: We maintain open communication channels to encourage conversations that strengthen our community and relationship amongst alumni and with NSCAD, with opportunities to contribute to NSCAD's future.

We’ll be hosting a Special Meeting on July 26th, 12PM AST for approval of proposed amendments to our By-Laws. These changes support our transition online and provide clarity on the roles, responsibilities, and opportunities. They will also help inform this year's AGM process, in hopes of getting more of you involved. Mark your calendars for the AGM 2024 on September 18th!

If you have interest in joining us, questions or ideas, I’m always happy to chat: president@nscadalumni.ca

Talk soon,
Ashley
