New CDU Academy of Arts to bring community together through artsA new Academy of the Arts is set to be established at Charles Darwin University (CDU) by 2024 to enliven the Northern Territory’s creative scene and nurture local artists. Based at the CDU Casuarina Campus, the Academy of the Arts will deliver contemporary visual arts education and courses, with studio spaces for artists and students and a Creative Futures Research Centre to produce world-leading research in the creative arts arena.
CDU signs partnership agreement with Hasanuddin University (UNHAS)Charles Darwin University (CDU) and Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in Makassar, Indonesia are set to sign a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a partnership in marine science, fisheries and biodiversity. UNHAS is one of the most prominent universities in eastern Indonesia for its number of students and academic staff, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, facilities and research and publication outputs.
CDU appoints Associate Vice-Chancellor East Arnhem regionA Territorian with strong ties to the region has been appointed as Associate Vice-Chancellor East Arnhem Region to re-establish CDU’s presence in East Arnhem. Alice Doyle, who most recently was the Superintendent Training and Indigenous Participation at Rio Tinto Gove Operations, will be taking up the role on March 28 and will be based in Nhulunbuy. Deputy Vice-Chancellor First Nations Leadership Professor Reuben Bolt said Ms Doyle brought with her a wealth of knowledge and skills across tertiary and secondary education, industry, and local government.
CDU investments at Katherine Rural Campus to revitalise regionsThe Charles Darwin University (CDU) Katherine Rural Campus will receive vital upgrades as part of the University’s investment to support housing needs to attract and retain staff in rural areas. The existing kitchen facility in at the Katherine Rural Campus (KRC) has also been upgraded as a part of an additional $200,000 investment to expand course offerings in catering across the Katherine and Big Rivers Region.
New Dean has bright vision for College of Nursing and MidwiferyCharles Darwin University (CDU) has appointed a new Dean to the College of Nursing and Midwifery to strengthen workforce training, impactful research and the growth of its course delivery into the future. Professor Karen Francis has previously led the School of Community Health at Charles Sturt University and the School of Nursing and the Launceston campus at the University of Tasmania.
CDU partnership speeds up the tracing of COVID-19 in the Top EndThe Northern Territory now has the capacity to test its own wastewater for traces of COVID-19, thanks to a team of microbiologists at Charles Darwin University (CDU). The Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods’ (RIEL) Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Unit (ECMU) Senior Microbiologists Dr Anna Padovan and Dr Susan Pizzutto have been testing wastewater using state-of-the-art lab equipment since January 2022.
CDU responds to National Student Safety resultsCharles Darwin University (CDU) has responded to the findings released by Universities Australia as a part of the National Student Safety Survey, which reports on the scale and nature of university student experiences of sexual assault and sexual harassment. More than 970 CDU undergraduate and postgraduate students participated in the survey, out of 43,819 students nationally.
Rescued 'old man' turtle released back to seaResearchers from Charles Darwin University (CDU) and Larrakia Rangers have released a 100-year-old flatback sea turtle back into the ocean after rescuing and rehabilitating it. The flatback turtle named ‘old man’ was found during a dolphin survey from Darwin Harbour to Fog Bay in October as part of CDU’s Marine Megafauna Project in partnership with Sea Darwin and Larrakia Rangers.
