Building Whole-of-Nation Asia Literacy for the 21st Century

Join us next Monday 22 September, 1:00-2:00pm (Canberra time) for the online launch of 'The Renewed Case for Asia Literacy' - the latest in AP4D’s Studies in Statecraft series.

Authored by Philipp Ivanov, the paper identifies a whole-of-nation opportunity for Australia to redefine Asia literacy for the 21st century — integrating technology, demography and mobility together with education, advocacy and policy institutions.

Hear from an expert panel on the types of initiatives and investments that build Australia’s Asia literacy, and how these threads can be more coherently woven together.

Speakers include:

  • The Hon Tim Watts MP, Special Envoy for Indian Ocean Affairs and Chair of the New Colombo Plan External Advisory Group
  • Philipp Ivanov, Founder and CEO of GRASP (Geopolitical Risks and Strategy Practice)
  • Lydia Santoso, Board Chair at the Australia-Indonesia Institute and Chair of the Australia Indonesia Business Council (NSW)
  • Genevieve Donnellon-May, Research Fellow at the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies
  • Dr Mingyan Hu, Lecturer in the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Griffith University
  • Zoë Mander-Jones, CEO of Strategic Development Group

Our program

This year AP4D has spoken with almost 80 organisations across key whole-of-nation sectors to explore how they engage with and support Australia's development program. Business has been one of the focus sectors, and last month we were delighted to host a roundtable with the International Chamber of Commerce, as well as deliver an all staff briefing to the UN Global Compact Network Australia.

AP4D recently co-hosted a webinar with Women in International Security-Australia on ‘Diversity in Development, Diplomacy and Defence’. Following thoughtful opening remarks from Senator Jordon Steele-John, an esteemed panel shared their experiences with diversity and inclusion across Australia’s development, diplomacy, intelligence and security communities.
