The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s data sharing platform “Extrata” was the first of three products to be certified under the Australian Farm Data Code, announced last week by the National Farmers’ Federation. “Being a new platform, it was imperative to get it certified so farmers know they can trust it,” said Tom Picton-Warlow, DPIRD's business development and natural capital lead.
“We’ve all seen the data hacks in the news. What the Code does is give farmers confidence we’ve got everything in place to keep their data safe, but it’s also important to us that our product stands up to a rigorous system.” The Code is the first of its kind in Australia, intending to inform the data management policies of product and service providers who manage data on behalf of farmers. It aims to promote adoption of digital technology, by ensuring that farmers have comfort in how their data is used, managed, and shared. More... Source: DPIRD / NFF | Photo: Adobe Stock

Wine retail buyer tour explores fine wines of Margaret River and Great Southern
WA Wines to the World – together with the South West Development Commission, Great Southern Development Commission (TradeStart), and Australia’s South West – funded a delegation of 10 wine retail buyers to visit Margaret River and the Great Southern in an aim to create new relationships and sales opportunities for both new-to-market and established WA wine brands. This industry-led immersive tour covered both regions, packed full of curated producer tastings, regional masterclasses and trade showcase events, as well as exploration of the landscapes and terroir of the regions. Retail buyers from
the United Kingdom (UK) and selected Asian markets took part, including direct importers and those seeking to expand their wine ranges via third party importer/distributors. More than 40 WA fine wine producers were showcased through multiple activations ranging from new-to-market tastings and business matching events to educational masterclasses and more experiential events that capitalised on the stunning landscapes of both wine regions. Coinciding with the retail buyer tour, internationally renowned wine writer and influencer Matthew Jukes was also in the region, meeting up with the tour group across a number of events. As a key figure in the UK and European media, Mr Jukes was also an exciting addition as international guest judge at the WA Good Food Guide Wine Awards Night in Perth on 9
October. WA Wines to the World, an industry-led export program jointly funded by industry, Wines of Western Australia and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, aims to substantially increase the premium wine exported. WA Seafood Industry Awards set for 3 May 2024
The Western Australian seafood industry will once again come together and celebrate excellence, innovation and long-time fishing friendships with the WA Seafood Industry Awards set for 3 May 2024 at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle.
COVID-19 border closures saw the National Seafood Industry Awards schedule shift out by 12 months, so the WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) has adjusted the state awards to better align with the national event.
The re-aligned timeline will also make it easier for state winners to update their submissions for national selection.
The event will feature WA’s best seafoods and celebrity seafood chefs, along with a selection of beverages for an all-inclusive ticket price. Ticket prices will be confirmed soon and go on sale shortly. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities for sponsorships and other engagements to WA's premier seafood event. Updates will be posted to the WAFIC website. Source and Photo: WAFIC
