Monday Edition
Good morning ladies and gents! How are you all on this fine Monday morning? I hope you’re all feeling well-rested after the weekend. I (Maddie) am doing well. I had a really relaxing weekend where I didn’t do anything at all and, honestly, sometimes I think the weekends where all you might do is read a book, watch a bit of TV, and cook are the best weekends there are. Paulo Coelho wasn’t lying when he said ‘It's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary.’ Because I couldn’t agree more.
Now, I know it’s Monday morning and I know you’re not here to read about my weekend, you’re here to crack the first riddle of the week! Today’s riddle is thanks to member @Rest1953, thank you for sharing this one with us all!
I touch the Earth, I touch the sky, but if I touch you, you'll surely die. What am I?
So, what do you think? An easy one, or a hard one? Regardless, if you think you know the answer, post it on our forum here. If you get the answer correct, you’ll earn yourself a shout-out in tomorrow’s newsletter! Good luck and happy riddle-ing, members!
Now, what’s happening across the world and around Australia today?

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment is brought to you by member @Alexander. @Alexander shared with us a little about his first job! Here’s what he had to say: ‘Serving an apprenticeship still exists I assume? I joined the Merchant Navy as a cadet in 1953 to accumulate 3 years of actual sea time before I was allowed to sit for a second mate's certificate. Sea time I should imagine is still a prerequisite before you can sit for your certificate. The technical requirements will be very different now with the advances in technology. I'd probably fail if I sat the exams now!!!’ Wow! What a first job, @Alexander! I can only imagine how different the job must be today.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us all!

Baby Plover
Today’s photo of the day was posted on our forum by the very thoughtful member @Cheekyface 1 and it has a bit of a back story! Here’s what member @Cheekyface 1 shared on the forum: ‘The manager of our complex got a couple of complaints from the same family about the Plovers swooping when they put their bins out once a week. No one else complained, but the manager then decided that he'd call a wildlife expert to come and catch for relocation. Well, he arrived and set up his catching regimen and caught all 4 chicks, then said thanks and
went to leave. I asked him why he wasn't catching the parent birds and he said that they are not allowed to relocate the parent birds as they were territorial. Both the manager and I thought that was ridiculous and were horrified that the wildlife people would even come up with something so ludicrous, so we decided that in future he'd just tell residents to give these birds a wide berth in the nesting season.’ Oh my, that is awful that they separate the babies from their parents! Look at the gorgeous little thing, it would have been heartbreaking seeing those four little chicks leave all on their own.

Alice was to bake a cake for the church ladies' group bake sale, but she forgot to do it until the last minute.
She baked an angel food cake and when she took it from the oven, the centre had dropped flat.
She said, ‘Oh dear, there's no time to bake another cake.’
So, she looked around the house for something to build up the centre of the cake...
Oh my, this is an absolute classic! A big thanks to member @Skipton for posting this on our forum, I was laughing for about five minutes! Click here to read the rest of the joke.
