Issue 817 Thursday, 8 August 2024
Tourism WA was thrilled to reveal our new India-facing advertising campaign this week, featuring Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist and his son Harry.
Set to launch in India on Monday, 19 August, the video-led campaign will promote day trips from Perth, featuring the star cricketer and his son enjoying road trips through popular WA destinations like the Pinnacles, Swan Valley, Lancelin, and more.
The campaign will also run on high-impact billboards in Mumbai and Delhi, driving traffic to accommodation, tourism experiences and partner deals with Thomas Cook and Skyscanner, which will offer packages to Perth. Building on Western Australia's highly successful Walking On A Dream global brand, the new campaign aims to inspire longer and more engaged stays with travellers from India - a market which represents huge growth potential for WA and typically visits Perth, Peel and surrounding areas.
India has leapt to become WA's seventh largest market (up from 11th largest pre-pandemic), which shows surging demand from Indian visitors, driven by a large Indian community in WA of around 61,000 residents, including around 9,600 international students. Earlier this week, we also announced another massive win for sporting fans. Following the huge success of HSBC SVNS 2024, which drew 48,000 fans over three days and marked the first sell-out SVNS event ever, Perth will once again host an Australian-exclusive leg of the HSBC SVNS tournament in 2025. The sport has a strong following in many of WA's key international inbound tourism markets including
China, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with the 2025 event expected to once again attract thousands of out-of-state visitors.
Warm regards,
Drive the Dream launch
This week, we officially launched Tourism WA’s new road trips initiative as part of the ongoing Drive the Dream global campaign. Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti announced the latest India-focused installment, which features Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist and his son Harry exploring day trips from Perth including sandboarding in Lancelin, stargazing in the Pinnacles, tasting the flavours of the Swan Valley by car, and taking a dolphin boat cruise in Rockingham. The campaign capitalises on India and Australia’s shared love of cricket and has launched ahead of the upcoming West Test cricket series taking place in Perth in November. India is a priority tourism market for WA with 34,000 visitors spending $128 million in year ending March 2024. Read more here.
