As we all welcome the promise of a new year, I wanted to share recent research grant announcements, publications, and resources from LUNGevity Foundation.
Health Equity for Communities Research Award

New Requests for Applications (RFA)
As part of the organization’s long-term commitment to lung cancer research, LUNGevity will open its 2022 RFA process on Monday, January 26, 2022. Five lung cancer research awards are available, each offering a minimum of one year of funding and mentorship:
- Health Equity and Inclusiveness Research Fellow Award Program supports lung cancer research for investigators from underrepresented minorities with degrees within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
- Health Equity and Inclusiveness Junior Investigator Research Award Program provides funding for physician-scientists from underrepresented minorities interested in conducting clinical research on lung cancer and bridging health disparities by engaging medically underserved communities.
- VA Research Scholar Award Program funds investigators focused on lung cancer research within Veterans Affairs populations.
- Career Development Award Program backs innovation in lung cancer research by future research leaders. Applicants must be within the first five years of their faculty appointment.
- Pierre Massion Young Investigator Award for Early Detection Research: This award will support one young investigator from underrepresented minorities in STEM who is interested in the early detection of lung cancer.

Testing in Precision Medicine: Written in collaboration with the Consistent Testing Terms Working Group, this Journal of Clinical Oncology-Precision Oncology article highlights the need for patient-friendly, umbrella terms for biomarker and genetic testing.
- Health Literate Biomarker Testing Materials: Booklets & Facts Sheets: Downloadable files are available in English on the Health Literate Resources and Get Educational Materials pages. Please check back for the Spanish versions of biomarker testing materials. All educational products are available for free printing and shipment (wrapped and sent in quantities of 25) via our educational materials order form.
