If the highest aim of a captain were to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever.

Much has happened since the medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas composed these words, but I was still placing my trip in the hands of the captain of my ship of the sky this week as I headed to Sydney for NatCon, the AMA National Conference (no doubt they knew a thing or two about luggage overboard in his day too).

A big thank you to those who attended MEDCON22 at Crown, whether in its entirety or just the Friday or Saturday. It’s always a challenge presenting something after its inaugural year, especially an event as large in scale as MEDCON.

But, we believe in the concept of bringing doctors from all stages and specialties together at this unique inter-college conference, and it seems you do too.

Formed in 2006, the WA Doctors' Orchestra (WADO) is comprised of doctors and medical students who are also classically trained musicians.Every two years the musicians come together and rehearse a classical repertoire under the guidance of professional conductor Mark Coughlan to hold a concert.

This year, WADO will perform their 10th biennial concert on Sunday 21 August at the St Hilda’s Anglican School Performing Arts Centre, with the highlight of the concert being the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto performed by second year UWA medical student Emily Leung.
