Saturday Edition
Good morning members, and welcome to another wonderful weekend! Do you hear that? It's the sound of the clinking baubles on the Christmas tree. It can only mean one thing – Christmas is just around the corner! Are you feeling the Christmas spirit yet? If you ask me (Vella), I've been feeling it since last week. That's because Mariah Carey's ‘All I Want for Christmas’ is on repeat in my house. But I'm not complaining. I love Mariah Carey and the song that makes everyone feel like dancing, and all warm and fuzzy inside. It might be my favourite Christmas song ever! What about you? What's that one song that just gets you feeling all Christmassy? Share it with us in our forum here. I’m actually in charge of the music at our Christmas party at home this year, so I might just add your suggestions to my playlist!
Before we get too carried away with Christmas cheer, let’s look at the answer to yesterday’s riddle! So what was it again?
What is a parent’s favourite Christmas carol?
Did you get it? The answer is ‘Silent Night’! Why? Because they’re always hoping for a silent night (when the kids are asleep and they can have some peace)! We thought this one was quite clever and funny. Well done to those of you who got it right! You’ll find a shout-out waiting for you a little further down this newsletter
Now, onto our next segment for the day, ‘What Would the Grandkids Say?’ Today we’re taking a look at the term ‘naur’. Naur simply means ‘no,’ but with an Australian accent. Kids worldwide are obsessed with how Australian accents sound to them and can’t help but poke fun at them. It became popular because of how Australian K-pop idols pronounce ‘no’ as ‘naur’, as well as the popular mermaid show set on the Gold Coast, H2O. Here's an example of a woman embracing the joke and revealing the proper way to say 'naur'. It's definitely worth a watch. So, the next time your grandchildren ask for something, and you want to say ‘no,’ try saying ‘naur’ and see how they react!
So, what's happening in Australia and around the world today?

Today’s Yesterday’s Australia segment is thanks to member @Deb Patto. They posted this memory as an entry in our Christmas competition, and it’s so funny that we just had to share it with you all. ‘My favourite Christmas memory was being fed chicken, pork, turkey and ham on Christmas day, Boxing day, the next day, the next day, the next day. I told mum I was sick of chicken, pork, turkey and ham. I went to work the next day, came home and asked what was for dinner. Mum replied, "rissoles". Yay!!!! I sat down in excitement and started
eating.?!? "What flavour are these rissoles?" I asked. Mum replied, "Chicken, pork, turkey and ham!" I never complained about food again.’
Hahaha, this is so funny! I can just imagine the excitement of being promised something different and then the disappointment that followed. Sneaky Mum! Thank you, @Deb Patto, for sharing this hilarious memory with us.

The Berlin Wall
Today’s picture is thanks to member @dragabagalong. They posted this photo in our photography forum along with the caption, ‘In several parts of Berlin, there are sections of the wall still standing. It has been hacked at by tourists to take home pieces of it. Some sections have been painted in bright colours with art featured in tourism brochures. One section still standing demonstrates the "no-go zone"
between two parallel boundary walls. People were shot instantly in that zone from a guard's tower overlooking it while trying to escape to the west. Very sombre viewing.’
This photo gives off such a solemn feeling. It reminds us of a tragic time. Still, a great historic shot nonetheless. Thank you for sharing this with us, @dragabagalong!
