WA agricultural businesses are encouraged to register their interest in the WA Government-led business mission to Vietnam in late September 2026.
As one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economies and an important trading partner for Western Australia, Vietnam offers significant opportunities for WA businesses to diversify export markets and build new commercial partnerships.
The WA Government-led mission will provide a tailored program of industry and government engagements, helping participants showcase WA's premium agricultural products, strengthen existing relationships, and explore new market opportunities.

The Western Australian Government has confirmed the state's first detection of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza. This is the serious H5 bird flu strain that has been circulating globally.
Australia is well prepared to respond quickly to H5 bird flu to protect poultry production and reduce impacts on wildlife and communities.
WA's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is leading the State response working in collaboration with Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the Department of Health, with national coordination led by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Surveillance for H5 bird flu will be enhanced together with targeted engagement with the poultry industry, veterinarians, and wildlife carers.
People should also take steps to keep pets away from wildlife, including preventing cats from roaming and keeping dogs on leads in wildlife areas.
If you own, care for, or work with birds, you should:
- prevent wild birds from mingling with your birds and accessing their feed and water,
- keep pens, aviaries, feeders, and equipment clean,
- wash hands thoroughly with soap before and after handling birds, and
- monitor birds for signs of disease or sudden deaths.
The community can assist by reporting any dead or sick birds or marine mammals to Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

- Ocean carrier Hapag Lloyd have introduced a new charge with immediate effect, called the Middle East Emergency Surcharge. It’s for all shipments currently on water or waiting for transhipment to countries in the Persian Gulf region. The charge is due to costs that have increased recently. The amount charged varies on a case-by-case basis depending on where the container lies. Higher charges apply for refrigerated and dangerous goods cargo.

A $12.2 million project at Western Australia's two southernmost ports is upgrading berth infrastructure to support growing trade for the region.
Leading civil engineering firm Freyssinet will work with Southern Ports to deliver a suite of remediation works underneath two berths at the port authority's Esperance and Albany ports.
The works will include hydro demolition across sections of Berth 1 at the Port of Esperance and Berth 3 at the Port of Albany followed by concrete replacements.
The two berths are critical for grain exports, which accounted for 93 per cent of the 6.7 million tonnes of trade facilitated over them last year, with figures expected to succeed that this year.
Following a competitive tender process, Freyssinet were awarded the contract and commenced work in Esperance in late 2025 and have since relocated to Albany. The program of works will be delivered across three stages over the course of three years to ensure no interruption to port operations or customers.
